Schira: Four clubs initiate contacts with Milan over Colombo’s future – the situation

Lorenzo Colombo will return to AC Milan at the end of the month, following a loan spell at Empoli, but he could soon pack his bags once again. 

The 23-year-old joined Empoli on loan with option to buy ahead of the 2024-25 season, while Milan also added a buy-back. However, although he wasn’t terrible with seven goals and two assists, the Tuscan side have decided not to redeem him given the relegation to Serie B.

According to Nico Schira, Colombo will thus return to Milan at the end of the money, even if he’s not expected to remain a part of the first-team squad for next season. Indeed, the likes of Cremonese, Genoa, Pisa and Torino have already asked the Rossoneri for information on the youngster.

For Milan, a difficult evaluation awaits as it could be time to part ways permanently with the striker. Bouncing between loan spells clearly hasn’t had the desired effects, so if a club were to sign him permanently with a proper plan for the future, that could be more beneficial.

In order to reap some potential rewards from that, Milan could let the academy product go for a relatively low fee and add a future resale clause instead. This is something we saw with Daniel Maldini and Marco Brescianini recently, with the former’s success resulting in a €7m payout eventually.
