Schira: Maldini and Colombo to return to Italy early – the reasons why

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are preparing for their first fixture of the American tour against Manchester City. However, the mercato does not rest, and two players will leave the States early to pursue moves away from the Rossoneri.

Before the mercato’s opening, and even after it, several reports have stated that Milan are looking to part with several returning loanees to maximise their summer budget, and it seems that two returning players are ready to leave the nest once again.

Perhaps, it may be their last chance to leave the Diavolo nest too.

As Nicolo Schira reports on his X account, Daniel Maldini and Lorenzo Colombo will return from the American tour on Monday, with both players set to depart from the club. For Maldini, a return to Monza awaits, albeit a permanent move this time, where the Rossoneri will receive ‘a little compensation fee’ and will have a 50% future clause.

Colombo’s permanent fate has not been decided yet. He will sign for Empoli, initially on loan, but there is an option to buy the player included within the deal.

Whilst neither fee will be significant, it is money taken off the wage bill, and additional money added to the transfer kitty, which is welcomed with Milan having expensive plans.
