Schira: Milan learn how much they would have to pay for midfield target as Atalanta set price

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could land one of their midfield targets for €15million this summer with Atalanta open to selling, a journalist has claimed.

There have been several reports over the past few weeks and months pushing the hypothesis of a potential return to Milan for Pessina, who left back in 2017 as part of the deal which saw full-back Andrea Conti move the other way from Bergamo.

According to what Nicolo Schira is reporting on Twitter, Atalanta could indeed consider selling Matteo Pessina this summer, for whom they have exercised an option to extend his contract until 2024.

However, the will not be sold at the ‘balance price’ and instead, La Dea will look for around €30m with several clubs interested. For Milan, of course, this means that in theory they could land him at €15m by virtue of the 50% sell-on clause which essentially functions as a tool to cut his price in half.

  1. Why would Atalanta sell to Milan? Are they obliged to? I don’t think so. Why get 15m from Milan when they can get 30m elsewhere. It makes no sense unless Milan has a right to first refusal

    1. Um, even if say they sell it to Real Madrid for 30M, they still will have to pay Milan 15M. That’s the sell-on clause..

    2. Milan have a 50% sell-on clause, so if they got €30m from another club, €15m of it would go to Milan. Hence, Milan can get him at half the price.

      1. Ahh gotcha. I thought it was for Milan only. I see. My bad. Thanks guys for the clarification!🙂

This still leaves the fact that they don’t have to sell back to a direct rival then. It’s like seeing your fruits of labour go to another team
