Schira: Milan preparing contract renewal for Torriani following US success

By Isak Möller -

Lorenzo Torriani was the starting goalkeeper for AC Milan during their pre-season tour in the US due to Marco Sportiello’s injury. At the age of 19, he impressed massively and a renewal is now on the cards, according to a report.

Sportiello injured his hand in the hotel on the day of the game against Manchester City, forcing Paulo Fonseca to field Torriani between the sticks. The youngster impressed with some good saves and good passing with his feet, keeping his spot for the other two gems as well.

According to Nico Schira, Milan are now ready to reward the goalkeeper with a contract renewal and a pay rise. This a huge sign of their trust as Torriani only signed his first professional contract (until 2027) with the club back in June.

It is far from surprising, though, given the performances in the US and he will now act as the deputy for Mike Maignan until Sportiello is back in action. The latter should be sidelined for two-three months and it remains to be seen if the Frenchman will need some coverage.

In the penalty shoot-out against Barcelona, which concluded the US tour for Milan, Torriani saved two penalties and thus led his side to 3/3 wins.

  1. Has there been any solid information on what actually happened for Sportiello to get such a serious injury to his hand?
