Schira: Milan aiming to reinforce two positions in January – the situation

The January transfer window is three months and while there are many games between now and then, AC Milan already have a pretty good idea of what is needed. According to a report, they will be looking to reinforce two positions.

After a tough start to the season, the Rossoneri have recovered and could win their fourth consecutive game in the league tomorrow. Despite the improvements made, though, it’s clear that a few positions could still need reinforcing.

According to Nico Schira, Milan will aim to sign a midfielder and a back-up striker in January. Luka Jovic hasn’t impressed at the start of this season and appears keen to leave as well, so it’s possible that the Rossoneri could sign a younger player for the role.

As for the midfield, Youssouf Fofana is currently the only ‘defensive’ midfielder and he could use some rest every now and then. Johnny Cardoso of Real Betis has been linked with the club before and they are reportedly keeping tabs on him still.

The striker Santiago Gimenez admitted that Milan tried to sign him in the summer and even if he’s still open to a move, he would not accept the role as third striker.

  1. Top teams generally don’t sign anyone in January because a) top players don’t generally move in January and b) top teams have a well planned out transfer policy that sees them get their business done early in the summer before pre-season.

Admittedly we did sign Kjaer and Ibra in our most successful transfer window since 03.

If we were to sign players of a similar ilk then I’m all for it. Otherwise let’s just give this latest incarnation of AC Milan a chance to bed down.

    1. Van Dijk and many top talented players have moved in January. It’s never the wrong time – players with winning mentality should want to move to the top teams.

  2. Bernabe or Frendrup if they want rotation options.. Cardoso will take 100 years to gel and lets be honest, he’s cr@p. Wrose than Musah kinda cr*p.
As for ST, we’re fine. Get Ben Yedder on free if they want ST. He’d be all 2 happy to be a sub at his age

    1. I watch Cardoso when he gets called up for the US National Team.

He’s an American player still playing American style soccer. He is succeeding because of athleticism and some individual quality.

So I don’t think he is trash but, much like Musah, I agree he will take too long to gel.

We seem to have invested in Musah for such a conversion, so it makes little sense to pick up another such project player when we are down quality squad depth in Mid and Striker departments.

      1. Didn’t he grew up in Brazil? Went through Brazil youth systems. Should be playing Brazil style then..idk

  3. Ricci, giovanni Fabian, luca Lipani would all be nice midfield additions, would also be good to get rid of Chuku and bring Orsolini or Berardi or even better Volpato, for another striker, got to be Lucca or Piccoli, or bring Colombo back home

No more foreigners, enough is enough

    1. Agree. Not for patriotic reasons but to comply with list rules.
Which are hindering us to have reasonable depth without raiding the Futuro team.

We don’t have enough midfielders. But bringing in most of the names mentioned would mean some other non-Italian player has to move off the list.

Recalling Colombo gives depth without needing to sacrifice some else in a different area of the field.

With most of our current senior Italian players injured either long-term or repeatedly (Sportiello, Florenzi, Calabria); we are struggling to play 2 games a week and barely 20 players to call upon.

An issue immediately fixed if we actually filled our quotas for Italian trained/academy trained players.

  4. I don’t know how it work financially or if it would be even feasible but I am a sucker for the whole redemption thing lol and genuinely feel like he is one of the most talented players of his generation.
