Schira: ‘A bit dissatisfied’ – why Theo Hernandez’s Milan renewal is ‘in high seas’

Nicolo Schira has provided a rather worrying update on Theo Hernandez’s renewal, claiming that things are in the ‘high seas’ given the distance between the parties.

It has been a strange few weeks for Theo Hernandez, and it dates back to a press conference he gave while with the French national team for the 2024 European Championships in which he responded to a declaration from Zlatan Ibrahimovic by suggesting his Milan future is uncertain.

With the arrival of the new head coach Paulo Fonseca the hope was that he and the team could kick on to another level, yet the cooling break saga and obtaining just two points from nine to begin the season have led to a rather sour atmosphere surrounding the Rossoneri.

It is hard to think that it won’t have an impact on the long-term futures of certain players if the rot continues, with Theo’s deal expiring at the end of next season meaning there is some urgency to find a meeting point.

Schira spoke about Theo’s renewal in a video on his YouTube channel, explaining how no meetings have yet taken place between the club and the full-back’s entourage to try reach an agreement.

“Theo already earns 5 million, he can’t renew at 6. He wants at least 8 million euros. Milan won’t reach those figures but, above all, unlike Maignan with whom there have already been three meetings, two of which were very positive in recent months, with Theo Hernandez we are a bit at sea from this point of view,” he began (via Radio Rossonera).

“Milan have not recently met with Theo’s agent and has not yet formulated an official offer. It doesn’t make the player feel calm, as he was expecting another treatment. From this point of view he’s a bit dissatisfied: he was expecting a renewal that could even arrive after the European Championship.

“But the first offer hasn’t even arrived we will talk, but if today Maignan is moving quickly towards the renewal with Milan, regarding Theo Hernandez we are in high seas.”

  1. Sure, clubs are always calculating.

I thing after so big investment in Leao, Milan probably, will never try keep any other player, for such huge number.

They gave 20 million to Lille, for 2 or 3 more year of extending, plus raised wages from 1,5 to 5 million per year. Plus at least 2 million in bonuses per year.

Leao after new contract didn’t explode but unfortunately stayed the same.

    1. He started slow as well after the World Cup. This was the Euro year; he started slow again. It happens. He will, as usual, recover his form. He is one of the best left backs in the world but Milan has never treated him as such and has never compensated him as such, and now the mediocre coach and a segment of the fan base are scapegoating him. No wonder Theo is dissatisfied and unmotivated.

Beware of what you all want. I’m talking to the segment of the fan base who keep bashing Theo and Leão and hoping that they will leave. If Theo leaves, we don’t even have a decent left back deputy, let alone a left back starter. It will be a disaster as we will not be able to replace him with anyone remotely as good as he is.

Regardless of the cooling break incident being immature and wrong in terms of supporting the teammates by two players who have been given the captain band before, two wrongs don’t make a right, so in a dispute between Theo, Rafa, and the mediocre coach who apparently loves to throw his own players under the bus (Is it a Portuguese coach thing??? Mourinho does the same!), I side with Theo and Rafa. I’d rather see Fonseca gone, than Theo and/or Rafa gone.

I have little hopes that they will stay. They must be fed up with the criticism by now. And don’t for a minute believe that they won’t find suitors. Even though there were no takers this past window, if they clearly signal that they want out of Milan next window, rest assured that other clubs will jump at the opportunity.

        1. 2 bad games after having 2 weeks off from playing almost 70 games (a game every 3 days) for club and country over the last year does not warrant the comments you are making.

The reason clubs aren’t putting bids in for players like Leao and Theo is because the transfer market is too expensive and clubs are waiting for the final year of a contract or to sign players on free agency to reduce the cost of an operation.

Theo is a quality player and after the level of consistency he has shown over the last 2 or so seasons i think we can give him a little space to not perform at his hioghest.

Also, he was involved in a goal and was generally very good when he came off the bench against Lazio.

      1. “He is one of the best left backs in the world but Milan has never treated him as such”

Really? Letting him play 90mins week after week and doubling his salary? HOW DARE THEY?!!! If that doesn’t shout DISRESPECT I don’t know what does!!!

        FFS…

  2. Milan will have to do a lot of convincing for him to want to stay. So far it’s not a very speaking idea, is it? Fonseca isn’t exactly a world beater.

What would he say to win? Hopes and Dreams? Milan need to formulate a winning project to him, to Mike, hell to all the fans.

  3. The same old saga of contract renewal of every key player in Cardinale’s era.

I wish they renewed Maignan’s and Theo’s contracts before replacing Piloi. At least Milan had a Scudetto winner at the time and not a Ukrainian league winner 😏.

Cardinale and his clowns will destroy Milan and make CL or any European competition a dream.

    1. Milan had a perennial flop and a bunch of ex player’s before that. Let’s hope Fonseca turns this thing around but questions must be asked of management as to why this guy was the “upgrade” to our team?

  4. Less time choosing a feminine haircut, more time on the pitch giving your all. Someone else is willing to give their all to be in this spot.

  5. Theo should stay, but Milan have a UEFA-imposed moratorium on FFP. If you give Theo 8 million, then you have to adjust the salaries of the others as well. I see everyone is writing about the coach. Let’s see who Milan’s trophy coaches are. Arrigo, they called him the shoe seller from Parma. Capello, worked in finance before being appointed coach. Zacheroni, the butcher from Udine called him. Carlito, lost the title with Juventus in Perugia and everyone said he was a loser. Allegri, came from Cagliari and I know what we talked about when he arrived. Pioli before Milan? No need to waste words. Was Milan then able to bring in trophy coaches instead of these? Yes, and more so than today. So get off Fonseca more.
