Scoring early and late plus several landmarks: Interesting stats and facts from Milan’s win over Parma

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s knack for late goals and their excellent away form once again shone through during Saturday’s win over Parma.

It looked as though Milan would coast to victory with a 2-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Ante Rebic and Franck Kessie, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s red card around the hour mark changed the dynamic of the game. Parma halved the deficit, but Rafael Leao sealed the win in the dying seconds.

➤ As MilanLive writes, it is the sixth goal that Milan have scored in injury time this season, the most in the division. The other five were Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s against Hellas Verona (2-2), Jens Petter Hauge against Napoli (3-1), Theo Hernandez versus Parma and Lazio (2-2 and 3-2 respectively), Franck Kessie versus Udinese (1-1) and then Leao.

➤ With the victory against Parma, Milan rose to 63pts for the season. The Rossoneri have not exceeded 70 points since the 2012-13 campaign.

➤ Against Parma, Milan scored their 20th goal during the first 30 minutes of play in the league. No team has done better so far, but Roma also have 20.

➤ Theo Hernandez became the first Milan defender to provide at least five assists in a single Serie A campaign since Ignazio Abate did so in 2014-15.

➤ Rafael Leao is the second youngest player to have scored more than five goals in Serie A in each of the past two seasons.

➤ Zlatan Ibrahimović won his 300th match in the ‘top five’ European Leagues against Parma (170 in Serie A, 88 in Ligue 1, 24 in LaLiga and 18 in the Premier League).

➤ Franck Kessie has become the fifth non-Italian midfielder to score at least ten goals for Milan in a single top-flight campaign. He joins Kaká, Leonardo, Nils Liedholm and Gunnar Gren.

➤ Milan have won 13 of their first 15 games away from home in this season (86.7%). In the history of the ‘top five’ European Leagues, only Athletic Bilbao (88.9% in 1932-33) and Bayern Munich (88.2% in 2012-13) have had a better winning ratio on the road in a single campaign.

➤ Milan have won 13 away games this season in Serie A, a record for the Rossoneri in a single top-flight campaign.

➤ Ante Rebic has scored 16 of his 17 Serie A goals with Milan in the second half of the season.
