Il Secolo XIX: Milan and Inter line up late bids to exploit Juve’s Chiesa ‘paradox’

Juventus made it clear to Federico Chiesa a few weeks ago that he is free to find a new clubs and although he is yet to do so, both AC Milan and Inter are reportedly weighing up a late move.

Juve began their 2024-25 Serie A campaign with a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Como last night but Chiesa was not on Thiago Motta’s list of players called up, in what was another clear sign that he is fully outside the plans.

Il Secolo XIX (via MilanNews) talk about a ‘paradoxical situation’ for Chiesa, one that will likely force Juventus to sell him for a discount so they do not have to pay him his high salary for the final year of his contract.

Both Inter and Milan are thinking about a last-minute move for the Italy international as per the source, taking advantage of the Bianconeri’s need to rid themselves of a problem while acknowledging the talent he has.

The Milanese clubs are thinking of putting a figure of around €10m on the table to try and tempt Juve, in case the situation regarding Chiesa’s exit is not resolved between now and the end of August and they therefore end up having to look for a compromise.

  1. He’s too expensive and has no room at Milan. I still don’t understand the need for this move aside from more headlines …

    1. Well, kinda agree, kinda not on the expensive part. Strictly from business point of view – yes, he has big salary requirement, but chances are whenever we decide to sell him, we will be able to do so and will be covered for all his accumulated salaries and transfer fee. If hypothetically they agree on ~15mil and we add his salary, we can still sell him even next year and get 30M as a minimum.

Problem is how this will affect the mood in the changing room.

      1. The chances are more likely than not that he will start deteriorating after his last ACL. This isn’t a player that is young and will only get better…

        1. At 15mil he is not expensive at all, since he is valued at 35mil in fact it is a chance to get quality player for cheap. Also he is not old he is 26. ACL injuries are not career ending like 20years ago, now they can be fixed. Technology has come a long way since then. Chiesa was fine playing last year.

    2. Chukwueze has not been a world class starting player for Milan. The guy was bought for 30M€ and has been lousy 90% of his playing time, criticized by Pioli last year for being lazy at practice. Maybe some competition from one of the best wingers in Serie A would not be a bad idea.

      1. Chuk makes peanuts per season with a higher ceiling than injury ridden Chiesa with questionable room for growth. He hasn’t been the same player after his ACL.

        1. I couldn’t care less if he makes peanuts or bananas since I’m a fan and not a banker. Higher ceiling is another way to say that we have no idea of what he can be. Currently, Chiesa is way ahead of Chukwueze. Chukwueze is 25 and lazy and Chiesa is 26 and has already played at the highest level.

        2. Chukwueze has been more injured than Chiesa and is roughly two years younger than Chiesa and the Nigerian earns around 5 mil a year so its not really correct.

Chukwueze missed 164 matchdays in his career

Chiesa missed 100 matchdays in career.

Anyone complaining about Chiesa being injury prone should demand that we sell Chukwueze.

  2. He can play anywhere up front. With how terrible Jovic is and Morata already injured, either he or Okafor can play strike and the other backs up Leao or adds depths to the right wing if Saelemaekers or Chuk dont step up. Milan should have really signed a deputy Strike but now this option seems fun to be able to move pieces around up front.

  3. Yes, there’s room for him. He’s a really good player when he’s fit and his wage is within Milan’sparameter. We can’t rely on Chukweze on the right wing as our sole starter. He’s too inconsistent. We have to take advantage the situation because you won’t find a player in his caliber for that price. Believe me he has a lot to offer. He can be a very good upgrade. He’s still one of the best Italians players in today.
Some keep saying he’s an injury prone. Who has never been injured? I remember you said the same thing for Pulisic, and look at now, he’s rarely injured. I’m not against signing Chiesa for his talent and experience, plus he’s Italians, because some complain we don’t have enough italians.

  4. Do a straight swap with Alexis and negotiate a lower salary with performance and appearance bonus, no need to part with cash, in the end we got our Italian quota and offload one player, it’s a win win and everybody is happy.

    1. Bingo. There are ways to structure the deal that reduce the risk for us. And if you’re gonna take a chance on a player, at least it’s one with a point to prove and formerly very high level, was one of the brightest jewels in Serie A.

Yeah it’s a risk but we’ve made stupider moves. Should give this swap deal with Saelamaekers a go, like you said would make inroads on the squad restrictions of league-trained quota

  5. There is plenty of room for him as an extra winger. If we consider Pulisic main position AM and Okafor as striker we actually really need him. The salary must not be more than 4.5/5 mil if we want a happy dressing room. but i guess higher demands could be hidden as either higher commision that is then passed on to him by the agent or maybe resale clause (e.g. lets give him 50% to any future sale). The overal package would be a steal anyway.

    1. Pulisic won’t be main CAM, it is more so that this will create space for Saelemakers on the flank. So is Okafor playing ST.

Reijnders with double pivot of Fofana and Bennacer is a must.

  6. What are you guys smoking? Chiesa scored 9+2 last season in 33 matches. He is on par with only Pulisic and Leao in current team. No one else comes even close. He is world class and one of the most creative players in Seria. If we can get him — we must. And lets just agree that Chuku is a flop I mean it is clear for now

    1. Too soon to tell on Chuk. Consistent season and more minutes might bring out a better version of him.

Also too soon to tell if Chiesa can offer more or improve after his ACL. Not very many do.

  7. I love Chiesa. He’s a special player. But I don’t see where he fits unless we think Leao is going away soon. I think this team needs a more physical defensive setup sometimes. That means Puli on the right instead of Chuku and RLC at the 10. And it might mean Chiesa on the left. I love Leao, but he does not do the work on defense and he can be exploited by talented right backs.
