Serafini admits he is ‘very angry’ Milan didn’t win both legs against Spurs

By Oliver Fisher -

Journalist Luca Serafini is ‘very angry’ that AC Milan did not manage to win the second leg against Spurs in London after emerging victorious in the first.

Milan booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a hard-fought 0-0 draw to progress 1-0 on aggregate against Spurs. It was far from a vintage performance from either side in truth but Milan’s approach of containing and countering after Brahim Diaz’s goal early in the San Siro clash proved to be a winning one.

The Rossoneri missed big chances to extend their lead in the second half as the game became more stretched and Cristian Romero saw red to make things even more open, with Brahim Diaz and Divock Origi each squandering big chances.

Serafini spoke during his weekly column for MilanNews and he reflected on the tie overall, explaining that fans should not be shocked that Milan have emerged over two legs and that they should have won both.

“From the day of the draw, I kept repeating that Tottenham are a good, very good team, but that if they had been this year’s team in the two legs and Milan had been the team of the last three season, then Milan would go through,” he said.

“It was like this: a team that between one game at San Siro and the other at the new White Hart Lane had 74 shots (against West Ham, Chelsea, Sheffield, Wolverhampton) but on Tatarusanu and Maignan’s goal only three arrived in 180 minutes.

“It’s not to belittle the merits right now – I’m very angry for not having won in London too as Milan would have deserved) – but just to paint the monster a little less ugly than it appeared. On the one hand there was a team that is struggling to get to the top 4 in the Premier League and on the other one that has always been there for 3 years and has won a title.”
