The 2025-26 Serie A fixtures are officially revealed on Friday evening, and a refresher of the regulations is always useful before the big event.
AC Milan will of course be hoping that the campaign goes better than the one that has just ended, in which they finished eighth in the table. That means they have to play a Coppa Italia game in August, for the first time in a decade.

Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri have arrived as the new sporting director and head coach respectively, to usher in hopefully a more prosperous era. With no European football to worry about, domestic success is the only target.
Below is a reminder of the rules that the fixtures for the upcoming season must follow. As for the event itself, coverage starts from 18:30 CEST and should be on the official Serie A YouTube channel.
Start and asymmetry
The 2024-25 Serie A capaign starts on the weekend of 24 August and ends on the weekend of 24 May.
As with last season, the sequence of matches in the first half of the season is different from that of the matches in the second half of the season, with a minimum of 8 matchdays between the first and second half matches against the same opponent.
This is in order to respect an ever-increasing number of coincidences linked to reasons of public order, the growing number of matches in European competitions, local events and the needs of the clubs, trying to maximise the television audience and attendance at the stadiums.
Derbies and European clashes
Any derby games (against Inter, in Milan’s case) can not be scheduled for the first round of the season, nor in the midweek weekday round (the ninth).
Clubs participating in the UEFA Champions League will not meet clubs participating in the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League on matchdays 5, 22, 26, 29, 32, 35 between two rounds of ‘back to back’ UEFA Competitions.
The midweek matchdays have already been designated: 9 and 19.
Alternation
Alternating home and away matches are planned for the following pairs of Clubs: Inter and Milan, Lazio and Roma, Juventus and Torino, Fiorentina and Pisa.
There are some exceptions due to concomitant or impeding events that will not allow it: specifically at the beginning of the season for Fiorentina and Pisa in order to allow the completion of the planned works in the two facilities.
In addition, there will be exceptions for Milan and Inter during the period of unavailability of the San Siro in Milano, which will be the stage for the Opening Ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games on 6 February 2026.
No winter break
The 2024-25 season runs from 24 August 2025 to 24 May 2026 will be interrupted only for the four FIFA windows (weekends of 7 September, 12 October, 16 November, 29 March) for international duty.
During the Christmas period games will be played on the weekends starting 21 December, 28 December and 3 January, in addition to the midweek round of 6 January.
