Serie A president suggests Bologna-Milan could be played on Christmas Day

AC Milan’s fixture against Bologna has officially been postponed, and the Serie A president has come up with an interesting proposal.

After almost a day of questions, a decision has been reached about Milan’s fixture against the Rossoblu, and it is certainly frustrating given the effects it will have on the scheduling. Reports have already suggested that the first ‘certain’ date the fixture can be played is not for six months, which is certainly something in itself.

Several solutions were evaluated between last night and when the meeting occurred, and postponement was the least preferred option provided, and Paolo Scaroni’s reaction to the decision tells a story about Milan’s reaction.

Following the outcome of the meeting, Lorenzo Casini, the president of Serie A, spoke about the decision that was made, and his words have been relayed by Francesco Nasato on X.

“The month in which it will be possible to recover the match between Milan and Bologna is February. There would be Christmas Day as a hypothesis but we are evaluating. Moving the match with Verona? No, it will enter a chain movement. As a League we cannot do much”

A Christmas Day fixture would be difficult to see, but the fact that is one of the new hypotheses shows how difficult it will be to reschedule the fixture.

  1. “As a League we cannot do much”

Yes, you can. You could have just said to Bologna:

“Como or Empoli are viable alternatives and we have the agreement of their clubs and municipal authorities. If you feel it’s too logistically late for the trip (we mean, it’s not halfway around the globe; if you think Como is too far, then Empoli is only 90 minutes away), we can postpone for 24 hours and play in Empoli on Sunday so that you can get a chartered bus and book a hotel if you are so precious delicate flowers that 90 minutes in a bus the day of the game is too much for ya. But that’s it. We the league have the discretion of saying where and when a game will happen, and our decision is that it will be played in Empoli on Sunday. Milan are willing to travel the 4 hours to Empoli. If you guys don’t show up, that’s your prerogative but then you forfeit 0-3. Period.”
