Sesto San Giovanni mayor describes Cardinale’s visit as ‘positive’ as Milan stadium talk continues

The mayor of Sesto San Giovanni has described his meeting with RedBird Capital’s Gerry Cardinale about a new stadium as ‘positive’.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roberto Di Stefano discussed the meeting he recently held with the figurehead of RedBird, the American company in the process of finalising a takeover of AC Milan.

After the immense delays that have been put on Inter and Milan’s plans for a new stadium in place of the current San Siro, talk has continued to grow that a stadium could be built in Sesto San Giovanni instead.

The mayor of that area has been clear for many months that he would like the clubs to move there and he held a meeting with Cardinale that was positive.

“It was positive and we will update again. He viewed the area, together with technicians from MilanoSesto and Milan. He wanted to understand the potential of the area, the services, which they are now analysing.”

He then admitted that whilst the interest in concrete he knows there is still a lot to be worked out and the onus is on the clubs to move the project forward.

“I realise that there are many variables: we are available, now the ball passes to the clubs, who will have to evaluate times, costs and certainty of investment.”
