CM: Six goals in one game – Man City smile as Milan are left to regret letting striker slip away

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will be left feeling a sense of regret as one of their former targets Julian Alvarez continues to break records with River Plate.

Last night, Alvarez scored 6 goals in River Plate’s 8-1 win against Allianz Lima in the Copa Libertadores group stages, rewriting the pages of their 121-year history as no River player has ever scored that many goals in a single game.

It was a true exhibition of ruthless finishing and smart movement, while Calciomercato.com report how Manchester City can smile as they have secured him for next season. He could have arrived in Italy, with Milan and Inter both enquiring to understand the feasibility of the operation.

In the end neither Milanese club turned their interest into anything more concrete and so another young talent will head for England where he will learn from Erling Haaland. In the meantime, Milan are scouting for their centre-forward of the future after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury, and it could have been Alvarez.

    1. Very scary duet of julian alvared and haaland nex season. It’s like Vlahovic and Dybala of juventus or duet of Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez

  1. Eh there’s plenty of young talents out there. He’s not the only one so i doubt Milan will feel regrets.

  2. We definitely missed out on this guy, we were watching him about 6 months before the likes of Man city started looking at him then his agent came to Europe and was meeting every big club out there we just couldn’t compete at that time for him sadly, 25m euro release clause, he would have been great as our number 10.

  3. There’s no regrets whatsoever because Milan can’t acquire every single young talent from around the globe. There’s literally thousands of kids out there with the potential to be become world class players so there’s no need worry or fret. I have full confidence in M&M and their ability to further improve the squad with the necessary components.

  4. Let’s see if he scores in the EPL first lol. Argentinian league is one thing, EPL is another. Although playing on that Man City team should make him look like a star lol

  5. He will have to compete with Mahrez and Fodden at City so probably wont get much game time. Maybe in the League Cups and on as a sub. For us he would have played every week. I bet City offered him twice the wages we did though. Although, like a few people have said, maybe we can get him on loan?

  6. Relax guys I’ll take it from here. A little bit of research and it would seem he’s good at scoring against bad defences which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but he really should score against better defenders to make the leap in quality.

Prior to his 6 goals, he scored zero in the last 5 fully played 90min matches in the Copa Lib. The 6 goals scored in one game was against the bottom team Allianz Lima in the group which every other team is beating up on and which has shipped 16 goals- the most in Copa bar independiente.

In the league, same occurs. In the first phase, he scored a total of 8 goals, with two hat tricks and two singles. One hatrick came against Patronato, which was bottom of the group and shipped the most goals ie bad defence. The other hat trick came against Sarmiento which was 7th in the standings out of 14 teams in that group and which has shipped the second most number of goals. Sense a trend? The other two goals were against Gimnasia (5th) and Platense with the former also have high number of goals conceded and the latter sitting next to Patronato at the bottom shipping also third most amount of goals.

In conclusion, scoring helps confidence in young players but the leap to scoring against proper defenders also need to be shown and he hasn’t shown it….as yet. I wouldn’t rue anything for now

  7. Nah, Milan won’t regret anything from not buying this guy. The way we are currently playing requires big and physical forwards like Leao, Ibra and Giroud. Origi is a good pick since he can always play on the right. Haller from Ajax is another profile that’ll fit our play.

  8. The Georgian talent Kvaratskhelia is one of the best players Milan needs. Check him at YouTube and see what a marvelous player is. Kaladze has already talked to Maldini about him and I hope Paolo will bring him at Milan before Bayern who is checking him.
