Skriniar admits ‘it was tough against Milan’ following Champions League defeat at San Siro

By Euan Burns -

Paris Saint-Germain defender Milan Skriniar has said that it was a tough night against AC Milan on Tuesday as his side were beaten 2-1.

Speaking after the game to UEFA (via Milan News), the Slovakian centre-back talked about his return to San Siro having left Inter in the summer and the difficulties that he faced during the contest.

“It is always special for me to play here after six years, and it was tough against AC Milan,” Skriniar said.

Skriniar started the game superbly as he headed PSG into the lead inside 10 minutes, but the Milan attack soon started to cause him serious problems.

He eventually got a yellow card when he barged Rafael Leao down as the Portuguese forward was approaching the box, but many fans felt he should have had one earlier in the game for other fouls.

A more stringent referee may well have dismissed Skriniar at some point during the game but Milan were able to win anyway with goals from Leao and Olivier Giroud in either half.

    1. Straight red wouldn’t have been a crime but surely it should have been his 2nd yellow at minimum. His previous tackle was definitely yellow-worthy when compared to other cards shown.

  1. Yes he should have been sent off ..I was furious that he stayed on the pitch …Any justice done we won the game …Rafeol leao what a superb match he had ,what a class player he can be ..Man of the match .
Loftus cheek not far behind him what a player to have in midfield…what about Olivier Giroud,,,great warrior performance from him ,and what a superb headed goal ,from a superb cross from Theo Hernandez..
Our defence magnificent..If you we can duplicate this form again we can beat Dortmund..
Well done pioli …You are a top manager..
Only thing that spoilt the result ,the injury to pulisic .

    1. Absolutely he should have. That last body check on Leao should have been the second yellow not his first. The ref should have given him the first yellow when he practically punched and shoved Leao to the ground.

      1. Actually Skriniar’s first yellow should have been the tackle on RLC and a straight red for the last tackle wouldn’t have been “wrong” either… So Skriniar should have definitely been sent off during the game. But who cares as we won it. Would still be nice to see a balanced referee in UCL for a change. Haven’t seen those this decade.
