Skriniar undergoes spinal surgery with Champions League semi vs. Milan looming

By Oliver Fisher -

Inter defender Milan Skriniar has undergone spinal surgery three weeks before the first leg of the Champions League semi-final clash with AC Milan.

The two Milan clubs will face off against each other twice in what will be six electric days next month after the Rossoneri beat Napoli 2-1 on aggregate while the Nerazzurri drew 3-3 last night to beat Benfica 5-3 in the tie.

As The Athletic report, a statement from Inter today confirmed that Skriniar underwent ‘endoscopic surgery on his lumbar spine’ at a clinic in France on Wednesday and therefore he now faces a ‘race against time’ to be back for the tie.

Skriniar – who will join Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season on a free transfer – released a statement regarding his condition.

“I want to hug my team-mates and thank them for the wonderful qualification for the semi-final of the Champions League. I also want to reassure everyone about my condition after the injury suffered in the first leg against Porto,” he said.

“Yesterday, in agreement with Inter, I underwent an operation to be able to return to the field as soon as possible. A brief rehabilitation will follow in order to be able to resume a competitive activity.”
