Sky: Bad news for Milan ahead of Celtic trip as star playmaker leaves training on crutches

AC Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu is facing an as yet unknown period on the sidelines after picking up an injury in training.

In the post-lockdown period of last season, the Rossoneri scored 35 goals in 12 games, resulting in the best attack across the top 4 European leagues. Hakan Calhanoglu had a hand in 14 goals, with six goals and eight assists, and his fantastic form has continued this season.

A lot of the media attention surrounding Calhanoglu has been regarding a possible new contract given his current deal expires in June 2021, however some bad news has now arrived.

As reported by Sky journalist Manuele Baiocchini (via MilanNews), the former Leverkusen playmaker left Tuesday’s training on crutches after a suspected sprained ankle to be evaluated with new tests.

The extent of the injury and the recovery time remains to be discovered, but he will certainly miss Thursday’s Europa League group stage opener against Celtic.
