Sky: Bennacer’s 2024 over with surgery likely – when he should return

The worst fears regarding Ismael Bennacer were confirmed today as a scan showed that he has suffered a complete tear of his calf muscle, and he could miss four months.

As we reported earlier today, the tests Bennacer underwent today confirmed a severe lesion of the medial gemellus muscle of the right calf. A specialist re-evaluation will be carried out in a week in order to define the best treatment for full functional recovery.

According to Sky, the medical staff and will decide with the club whether to opt for conservative therapy or an operation, which at the moment seems to be the more likely option given the severity of the issue.

Bennacer will not return to the field before January 2025 because the stoppage will be for a minimum of three months, although that will probably become four when factoring in that surgery is most likely.

Fast-forwarding four months takes us to the beginning of January when the Supercoppa Italiana is scheduled out in the Middle East, with the ‘semi-final’ against Juventus on January 3.

Given the period of absence, it feels more realistic to potentially aim for the Juventus away game on 19 January, or maybe the Champions League game against Girona a few days later.

  1. Said this man is a solid number 3, but too soft to be our go to. He isn’t built to be the engine of a midfield. He is too soft to carry physically demanding duties more the 60 minutes per game. Always said we should have sold him to keep Kessie.

Good luck and I hope for a complete recovery.
This sucks because he just got back from a different extended stay on the sidelines.

  2. After all the pushing out from the administration, sadly this is the K.O for him, he’s definitely leaving next transfer window!
I feel so sorry how this is going to end 😢

    1. He’s leaving next transfer window in January? Who will sign him? If he’s 4 months out, that takes us to mid-January. There is no way a club will take a chance on a player coming from two major injuries and still recovering from the last one. He’ll be with Milan until the summer window, or longer if he gets injured again as he probably will. I think his career is over.

    1. That’s what we should do, if we had a competent coach. We don’t. So I’m not sure that Fonseca will have enough good sense to do it. His decisions seem to be mostly the wrong ones.

  3. Of course feeling quite sad about bennacer’s serious injury but all this concern by milan management about when he comes back seems anything but genuine ….. remember they were doing their very best to get rid of him only two weeks ago!!!!!

    1. They are concerned on how to replace him when he’s deemed surplus to requirements while this panicking also shows no one has confidence in our shiny new 90 million midfield to cover for him.

      Complete circus.
