Sky journalist admits Bennacer ‘could be sold’ and another striker may arrive

By Euan Burns -

Sky Journalist Peppe Di Stefano has admitted that Ismael Bennacer could be sold in the final week of the transfer market and does not rule out AC Milan signing a striker.

Speaking on Sky Sport 24 (via Radio Rossonera), Di Stefano assessed what the final week of the transfer market could look like for Milan and there is every chance that it will be very busy.

With four senior players having already arrived, Milan have got the bulk of their work done when it comes to new players. There is still work to do with sales, though, and Bennacer looks to be a prime suspect to leave the club.

Milan would like to bring Manu Kone into the midfield rotation but with Bennacer, Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega all surplus to requirements, space needs to be made.

“The suspect, should there be a sale that I would call excellent, would be Bennacer alone, because clearly you don’t sell the top players in this team. Bennacer, should an interesting offer arrive for the player but above all for the club, could be sold. There are seven days to go until the end of the market, and Milan have reached the four main targets: central defender, right-back, central midfielder and striker,” Di Stefano said.

Di Stefano went on to explain that Fode Ballo-Toure is another player like Adli who could be trimmed from the squad as the week progresses.

That would then open the door to the potential arrival of a striker, even though the general understanding at this point is that Milan would only add a new midfielder.

“Having said that, Milan are in an ideal position: they have to dispose of those few players who are now redundant within the squad such as Adli or Ballo-Toure. For the rest, Milan has the serenity to be able to prove some small gaps that exist with other teams or perhaps take opportunities. For example, there is the possibility that Milan could take a new forward to fill out the attacking department even more. It is not a necessity, but an opportunity and in my opinion something can happen between now and seven days. So watch out for Milan,” he said.

  1. Not going to make much from Adli at this point so surely loan offers worth considering, seeing if he raises his value at all with a year away.

      1. Oh yeah, he’d be very vital.
Between his usual couple of months spent off the pitch because of injuries, him trying to lose weight and get back in shape after an injury and 1 month out because of the Copa Africa, from where he will most likely come back injured, yeah outside of all that , he’d be vital.

          1. My guy was one of the most important players in the team… Had 1 bad season and suddenly he’s same as Adli and Pobega… says a lot who started watching only last season and who hasn’t…

  2. If Okafor plays a great game this weekend, they won´t sign another striker. If he fails they´ll try to sign another striker. It´s all on Noah. A lot of his season is on the line this weekend. If he fails it´ll be another year as Leao back-up. If he succeeds he´ll be above Jovic in the order to replace Morata and he´ll play a lot more games.

  3. why are we rushing to sell him at his lowest market value point? I would keep him for a year and recover him as much as possible (can’t be worse than last year) and we will be at a much better position to decide whether to keep or sell

    1. He doesn’t have a high market value. He’s injury prone and he’s in decline. Another year only makes him a year older and maybe less mobile.

  4. So Bennacer is bad, Tonali was bad, Calabria is bad, Saelemakers is bad, Leao is lazy, etc. And Pioli won a Scudetto and went to UCL semifinals with a bunch of bad players but somehow he had to be fired. I’m not sure how it makes sense.

          1. Why is Bart mad?
Bart IS mad because the owners fired Paolo. He showed up here after the firing, and hasn’t stopped crying and talking negatively about everything regarding Milan. There are other Maldini fanboys in here who from time to time will break character and say something positive, but never Bart. He is the only 1 outside of the corrupt bureaucrats in Milano who is even against Milan building their own stadium.
“How can they fire a perfect gentleman like Maldini?”😭
“How are we going to attract players now without Maldini’s charm?”😭
Players are taking less money to come to Milan. Morata even separated from his wife just to come to Milan. But according to Bart no one will wanna come to Milan because Paolo isn’t there anymore.

        1. Salary cap doesn’t change. Jerry’s quest for ROI doesn’t change. What changes is the second star on Inter’s jersey and my experience as a longtime Milan fan living in Milan and going to San Siro.

Sorry to learn about your cholesterol, hope the last results are good.

          1. Nobody said Benny is bad. Nobody said Tonali is bad.
What mystifies people on here is nobody is sure what you want. You want Milan to win trophies? Do you think you are alone in that? You want Milan to not sell players but also spend on big name players? Not sure that is even a good strategy. So what does Bart want? Why is Bart mad? Bart is mad because the current owners are American and therefore every move, no matter how good objectively it is, comes in for withering scrutiny.
I happen to think the current owners are very intelligent and I’m glad they are stewarding a club I care a great deal about.
Specifically about Bennacer, he had his best form over two years ago. Has he been able to recapture that form? No. Is he reliable from a fitness perspective? No. Does his sale represent the possibility to reinvest in an area of the squad that will bring greater results on the pitch? Yes.

You never say anything good about the management or the team. I’ve never seen you heap praise on anyone after a good performance. So you’re that guy who only opens his mouth to talk about what they don’t like, what is bad, what is wrong. I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what being a fan is.

          2. Well when I read an interview of Jerry saying « We’re an IP monetisation engine » (2024) or Scaroni saying « We don’t compete for trophies » (2023), I understand it as is. Last time I’ve been at a game, I waited one hour under the rain to see the players jump in the bus out of their hotel then I stood for two hours completely wet at San Siro to watch a horror show because there is no midfield and no grinta. I’m not thrilled by speculation and cheap promises of a very hypothetical bright future.

          3. We still don’t know what you want….
Milan to buy 50m plus players and offer outrageous salaries? Go deep into debt to add another trophy to the cabinet? No thanks. There is another way.

  5. Because if you keep him here, you cannot bring in another more dynamic, less injury prone midfielder. He’s taking up one of the foreigner spots on the squad lists.

We need at least that extra CM to rotate with Reijnders, Fofana and Musah. The Vos kid and Zeroli are still young and Fonseca don’t want to rush their development.

Bennacer being missing for large parts of the last two season is similar to Kalulu. We just sold Lulu, I can see us geting rid of Ismael as well.

  6. Bennacer is better then all our midfielders maybe not fofana but the rest 100%. If he leaves its to cash in, not because adli, mousa Rlc reijnders are better in his position.

    1. I think he is not a go to, top tier midfielder, I wouldn’t mind if we wait to see how he performs with Fofana. With him there insulate, it might give him more time, space, energy and freedom to do more of what he does best. He is half decent defensively, but not quite good enough to carry the bulk of those tasks himself. He is a solid player at his best.

  7. Wtf. Sell another players like Pobega or RLC. Why Bennacer? He is the smart midfielder in the squad. I think we need get rid of origi, bollo toure , pobega , saelemakers, florenzi, jovic. Buy chiesa, give chance young boys like liberalli, zeroli, camarda, bartezaghi,

    1. The problem though is that we don’t know if Fofana can play as a lone 6. If he can succeed as a lone 6, we should definetly ditch the 4-3-3

  8. I really think Bennacer should stay, and if we want to aim to reduce our squad size Adli, Thiaw, Balo-Toure, Origi and Saelamaekers all need to depart.

Then sign Kone and another striker. IMO.
