Sky: Chiesa could become a ‘sensational option’ for Milan as Juventus seek solution

By Oliver Fisher -

Juventus have still not managed to resolve the situation linked to Federico Chiesa’s future, a report claims, and AC Milan remain a potential destination for him.

As Sky (via MilanNews) reported last night, Juventus have made it clear to Chiesa that he is not seen as a part of their plans moving forward. The new head coach Thiago Motta arrived and is looking for a different kind of winger, hence the strong links to Nico Gonzalez.

That means Chiesa is free to find a new club, but the problem for Juve is that at the moment there ares no concrete negotiations for the Italian forward. This means that he will inevitably become a name to follow carefully in the final days of the transfer window.

His contract is expiring in June 2025 which means that a loan is not an option without a renewal, and the broadcast adds that a ‘sensational option’ could be a move to Milan. After having closed the deal for Youssouf Fofana, the management are carefully monitoring potential opportunities.

Chiesa could be one of those on the right terms and Geoffrey Moncada has often shown a willingness to bet on players who have had a down year (see Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Emerson Royal and others). The Italy international is also being watched by Roma and Napoli.

    1. To be fair I like Saelemaekers and Okafor and probably is one of the very few commenters around here who hasn’t bashed him or name called the Belgian even once but I for one would be willing to sacrifice both of them to get Chiesa, obviously all depending on if the Italian can be persuaded to sign on a lower salary with performance related bonuses in regard of matches played/goals scored/assists made/trophies won.
This is a one time opportunity that I absolutely think should be explored if it is in any way feasible and if Fonseca actually can see any use in having him with us.

      1. Martin, Saladmaker was one of the best in preseason (except Varselona game), Okafor already showed he has a good sense of noticing the ball within the box when he was deployed as a number 9 role.
Okafor can play as LW and CF, Salad can play as RW, RM and LW…
Meanwhile injury prone Chiesa can play mostly as RW. We have 3 players for Chiesa’s position already.
Do you really think that it is a wise decision to get rid of Salad+Okafor in order to get Chiesa?

        1. Of course he was but Chiesa is on a completely different level than both of those two players.

I regard of Chiesa versatility his stats says otherwise
          Matches played/Goals scored/Assists made.

          Right Winger 93 33 14
          Second Striker 62 14 9
          Left Winger 61 11 13
          Right Midfield 37 9 8
          Centre-Forward 24 4 5
          Left Midfield 11 4 3
          Attacking Midfield 2 – –

I would also argue that he had a pretty good season last year and he is basically entering his prime age for footballers.

          1. That’s fair Mirajol and who knows but Its not like that there is a great age difference between the two. Saelemaekers turned 25 in June and Chiesa will be 27 in October so doubt he will ever be half the player than Chiesa is.

          2. Martin I dont understand why people even compare Chiesa with Okafor, Sale or Chuk. Chiesa is on Leao level when fit. There is no comparison there. But then again people were claiming that Sale suck last year while i was telling them that he is doing great in Bologna, now they praise him after few games in pre season lol. I think they never watched Sale last year and simmilar they havent watched Chiesa and what he can do. I belive that the risk for Chiesa is worth it. With him we can chalenge Inter if he stays fit. If not we can still get 15mil back from him or close to that.

        2. I 100% agree with this take. Someone please make a note of this. Even with Mirja common ground may be found.

          FORZA MILAN ⚫️🔴

      2. I think so too, we can do with Chiesa as rotation player in both wing, and he actually can slot in as homegrown player which is a bonus. But lets play hard ball and offer around 5-10m fee for him or straight swap deal with Saelemakers and 4m net salary – he is on last year of contract and Juve is desperate for selling.

We can have Pulisic, Chukwu, Leao and Chiesa compete for both wings. And if we play with 4-2-3-1 then Pulisic can play the AM leaving the 3 to play for 2 position.

        1. The more favorable deal the better but I really doubt that they would entertain any 5 mil bids, and rightfully so.

He can basically slot in on the front 3 positions so he should be able to find ample room in the squad.

      1. Yes, cheap side that offers more to players and they go there to get paid more. What are you smoking? Just recently, Thuram, and many more in the past 5-6 years….

    1. I don’t think he would play much at Inter. They use wingbacks so he isn’t going to play on the wings, and they have Martinez and Thuram up top.
I would only take Chiesa if we sell either Saleamakers or Chuku. Honestly I’m quite happy with the squad right now, may even be a little too big.

  1. Good acquisition if we want to comply with local quota for UCL purposes. He can slot in immediately into the 1st team for that and also comes fairly cheaply. He can deputise for Chuck and we can use Saelemaekers as rotational player to deputise for Pulisic if we don’t invest in Samardzic.

  2. Is this just journalists writing speculative opinion pieces for clicks, or is there anything concrete that we’re actually looking into signing him.

I’d swap him for Salamaekers and use Okafor as another striker option alongside Jovic / Morata but agree with most people here that it depends on Chiesas wage demands and also if we can sell the extra squad members, be it Salad/Adli/Pobega etc..

  3. Swap him for Saelemaekers then bring in Rabiot. I know he’ll require a huge wage but if you want world class players you’ll have to pay world class wages, it’s as simple as that. Then sell Pobega and Adli and our squad will be awesome!

  4. I would keep Saelemakers over Chiesa just because he is helps more defensively. All our wingers are already attacking minded so personally as much as I like Chiesa I’m against it

    1. He would cost about as much as Okafor in terms of transfer fee, a few M more. He is 100 times better than him. They should find a new club for him, get around 15M and give that to Juve for Chiesa.

  5. I don’t know why some of u guys even think that Chuk is a quality material for Milan, Better replace him with Chiesa who is far better and has the ability to penetrate opponent defense especially with his speed, agility and strengh which we need the most, he can guarantee us important goals and assists too with his qualties

      1. What a lazy and ridiculous notion to put forward Hassan so if you praise Bennacer or a black commenter praises a black player it must also be for obvious reasons like religion or skin of color. Sigh…
I’m by no mean saying Chukwueze is a bad player or anything but your argumentation is well beyond bonkers.

        1. Think it’s different. I haven’t seen any commenters saying that they want a player for being certain religion or race while there have regularly been comments about wanting players for being Italian, even when some of those commenters don’t sound like Italian themselves. So it doesn’t look to me as Hassan saying that the guy is pushing for a fellow country man like your example of a commenter praising a partner in religion or race.

Now I’ve seen some people coming up with good reasons why it’s necessary to add more local players. Secondly I don’t think Hassan’s seen enough through the guy’s comments to make a judgement like he’s wanting Chiesa for the sake of having an Italian. And personally did rather have Chiesa in the squad.

          1. Think you are missing my point as I pretty much just used the same sort of argumentation that he did because he said Ray06 just wanted him for the sake of him being Italian so I just reversed the argumentation as vtried to emphasize how dense it was. If it can go one way it can go the other way as well.
In the end there is definitely without doubt good reasons for us to have Italian players to fit the quota and Chiesa is one of the best Italians around if not the best and available at a spot price.
I’m not Italian or of Italian ancestry myself either by the way.

          2. Wanting for the sake of him being Italian, without ray05 particular sharing anything in common with Chiesa. But your example was wanting/praising for sharing something in common. I get the quota thing and Chiesa being a good fit.

          3. He did write a more comprehensive comment in regard of why we should get him whereas Hassan basically just said he only wanted him because he was Italian, that’s not much different than what i said to him regardless of my phrasing. In the end its not like we have to agree that’s also fine I just didn’t appreciate his way of arguing.

          4. I understand we all tend to like exaggerating our examples for as long as the logic is there. I feel we just need to keep them less complicated with associates. I don’t appreciate Hasans way of arguing either. That was truly lazy and ridiculous.,

          1. If that was only true but this is both players injury history

chuckwueze 25 years old 164 matches missed

chiesa 26 years of age but soon to be 27 years old 100 matches missed

    1. So u think JUVENTUS is stupid to have decided to sell him? U think u are smarter than joventus that wants to sell him? Chiesa is a finished product. Nobody wants to buy him

  6. He’s a good player but what is the guarantee that he won’t hurt himself again. We’re all about sign him sign him syndrome. No one is talking about exits. None of our players are linked anywhere. The two that went on loan, came back and no one exercised their option to buy. They should trim down the squad first. If you have too many players who are not playing, it brings disunity within the group

  7. it doesnt matter how much we offer juve – will be a steal anyway. i agree on the 4mil salary, which will be the problem but also needed for the wages structure. As for qualities, i see one very important aspect, that he has the quality to lead an attacking line against smaller teams, when we rest Morata, Puli, Leao. i dont see this quality in Okafor or Salad or Chuck. e.g. i’d be confident against Como with Chiesa/Jovic/Okafor(or Salad or Chuck)+any AM, but i wouldnt be with Salad/Jovic/Okafor+any AM.

  8. where are those clamouring for the Zelori’s and other youngsters for playing time. ?The priority of the club now be getting rid of the many redundant players before considering any additions–preferably Italians for obvious reasons. Presently I’m counting 30 players if not more, too wieldy for comfort .I hope and pray that management will do the right thing.May those affected have the grace bear and the courage to move on.

  9. My understanding is that we have 20 players eligible for List A in the Champions League, but we can only register 17. So we might need Chiesa to register him as an association player, rather than one of the 17 foreign players.
Safe to say that Kalulu and (probably) Adli are out, we still need to offload one more player.
What I think is the right thing to do (and I know it won’t happen) is to sacrifice Samuel Chukwueze, and keep both Saelemaekers and Okafor.

  10. Salad and Chuk can track back and press in defense.

Chiesa, not so much. Doesn’t have the legs for both phases of the game.

    PERIOD.
