Sky: Conceicao ‘convinces Milan the most’ as negotiations enter advanced stage

By Isak Möller -

Sergio Conceicao’s candidacy for the post-Stefano Pioli at Milan is heating up, with talks ongoing between the parties. According to a report, the 49-year-old is now the manager that convinces the Rossoneri the most.

Milan have probed several managers in the last few weeks, such as Paulo Fonseca of Lille, and Thiago Motta also remains in the running. However, following the presidential election at Porto, an opportunity has now emerged for Conceicao.

The manager signed a contract renewal with Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who lost the election against Andre Villas-Boas, and a departure now appears to be likely. Speaking to Sky Italia (via MilanNews), pepper Di Stefano shared an update on the matter.

“Conceicao appears to be in pole position and even though he still has a contract with Porto, he has a good chance of coaching Milan. He has a similar style to the current Milan, so a four-man defence, two midfielders and three attacking midfielders behind a striker in 4-4-2 or 4-2-4. The dialogue continues. He’s a modern coach who has done very well with Porto in recent years.

“Other profiles such as Fonseca and Amorin are also being evaluated but at the moment, the one who convinces the most is Conceicao. It’s an advanced negotiation, but not yet closed or defined. His contract with Porto expires in 2028, but after the change of presidency they could part ways,” he stated.

A meeting is on the cards between Villas-Boas and Conceicao, during which they will discuss the future, and it remains to be seen what the outcome will be. Milan are watching on with great interest whilst remaining in contact with his agent Jorge Mendes.

  1. Two days ago Fonseca was in prime candidacy… LOL!!! This is what I mean when i say it’s so hard to take any of this seriously unless Romano reports it.

Conceicao is rep’d by Mendes. He is hard to deal with. I’d stay away from his clients simply based on that…
