Sky: Availability and scaffolding – Fonseca working on Milan’s defence in privacy

Paulo Fonseca has been at work with the AC Milan squad since Monday and he seems to have made the defensive phase one of the priorities, according to a report.

According to Sky, fences have appeared around Milanello to preserve the team’s privacy and in the meantime Fonseca is doing his first training sessions as the new coach of Milan, having been unveiled earlier in the week.

He is ‘starting with the defence’, and it is a department that – at least in terms of availability of players – that the Portuguese already has almost fully at his disposal to test initial solutions for the new season.

The report claims that Zlatan Ibrahimovic in particular wanted a perimeter fence to be established around the training ground, with scaffolding three metres high, covered on both sides with tarpaulin to preserve the privacy of the squad.

Fonseca is already working on the defensive block after too many goals conceded last year, and so rather than changing the players too much – while waiting for help from the mercato – concentration and attitude need to be changed.

Having all the defenders in the squad at Milanello – barring Theo Hernandez – could represent a real advantage to immediately improve the mechanisms and absorb new ideas.
