Sky Germany: Italy move for Hummels ‘most likely option’ – Milan are interested

By Oliver Fisher -

Mats Hummels’ contract with Borussia Dortmund ends this month and the signs at present suggest he will leave, with AC Milan interested.

According to the latest from Sky Germany, the signs are clearly pointing towards the departure of Hummels who would only consider renewing his deal with Dortmund if they sack the head coach Edin Terzic. The 35-year-old has communicated this internally.

The relationship between Terzic and Hummels is strained because the centre-back is one of the BVB players who has ‘repeatedly questioned the coach’s tactics in the past’. In an interview with SportBild, the 2014 world champion also publicly criticised Terzic before the Champions League final.

Sky state that Terzic will continue to coach the team next season even if no talks have taken place over extending his deal, which would mean he would enter the final year of his contract, something that is uncommon for coaches.

The internal discussions about Terzic’s future beyond 2024-25 will only be held towards the end of the first half of the season, by the new management team led by sports director Lars Ricken. All of that pushes Hummels towards the exit door.

If the 35-year-old leaves the club this summer, a move to the MLS or Saudi Arabia is not an option for him. Hummels prefers to stay in Europe so that he can stay close to his family and his son, and a move to Italy is the most likely option with Milan the only club mentioned as interested.

    1. We really don’t. Not whilst we have Tomori, Thiaw, Gabbia, Simic and Kalulu. We do need a CB, but bringing in two would be a waste of money.

      1. That’s not a serious reply. Thiaw and Kalulu have been in very bad form and both should leave. Simic doesn’t even play.

        1. Thiaw is still just 22, for a CB he’s a baby… transfermarkt has him as a €25m player. He deserves some faith. We’ve seen how good he is when healthy and on form.

          1. Thiaw was disastrous last season. I agree he deserves more time to develop, but he can’t be penciled in as a starter. Kalulu and Gabbia not top level. That leaves Tomori and Simic. Not very reassuring.

          2. He’s not enough. This is why we need to sign Buongiorno and Hummels. We lost Kjaer. Kalulu or Thiaw aren’t likely to stay.

We are coming out of a season with many defensive problems. We need to fix that. Thiaw is inconsistent.

    1. We already have a player that can play as a striker and a left winger. His name is Noah Okafor.
Plus we don’t need another wannabe rapper and a diva in the team who can’t stay healthy for more than few weeks in a row.

    2. Depay? LMAO

He has flopped at every big club. Lyon seems to be his limit. I’d bring in Pinamonti to back up Zirkzee.

Hummels and Buongiorno would be good CB options.
Kalulu to the right. Thiaw to fight for space( if he is fit).
If he is good enough, he’ll take a starting spot.

    3. wages bro. All these “free” players want 7-9M salaries. Our 2 top players (leao and Theo) dont make that much. So the question is, are any of these “free” guys better than Leao and Theo to deserve 7M Salaries?
+ if they flop with us, we cant move them (e.g. Origi who is making 4M). Free sounds cool, but they are free for a reason

  1. Hummels looked good for BVB this season considering he’s no spring chicken. I’d you want leadership In this team not named Florenzi , you would go for this man. A lot of respect and international pedigree.
