Sky Germany: ‘About to move’ – Milan advance in talks over Mönchengladbach star

AC Milan are moving forward in talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over the signing of midfielder Manu Kone, according to a report.

Milan have been linked with Kone over the past two or three weeks when it became clear that the addition of Youssouf Fofana was not seen as enough to complete the midfield department, though things had gone quiet in the past few days.

According to the latest from Sky Germany, Kone is ‘about to move’ from Mönchengladbach to Milan. The player and the Rossoneri have already reached an agreement over personal terms, now all that is missing is an agreement between the two clubs.

The idea is that Milan will first sell Ismael Bennacer to a club in Saudi Arabia, and then present a bid for Kone. The Algerian was named as a substitute during Saturday’s game against Parma, but remained on the bench.

Monchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus officially confirmed Koné’s intention to be sold in recent days, as he told Kicker: “Manu Koné told us quite early on that he wanted to leave the club, but there is no update.”

The 23-year-old midfielder has been in the sights of Milan since three years ago when he was at Toulouse, before the midfielder chose to move to Germany. It is believed that the Bundesliga club’s request starts at €20m.

  1. Four days before the Mercato ends? I doubt it.

How is the supposed sale of Ismael Bennacer coming along? He had a lowball offer from an Arab club that Milan rejected (correctly) and no subsequent offer came; the silently has been lasting for several days, now. So, supposedly Isma would get sold, what, in the next couple of days, then Milan would sign Koné, what, in the subsequent couple of days, hours before the Mercato window closes? I’ll believe it when I see it, but as of now, this just seems to be the work of some German journalist trying to get an audience.

Something needs to happen today or tomorrow for this to materialize. Mark my words: if by Wednesday evening or at the latest Thursday evening Bennacer hasn’t been sold, he is not leaving and Koné is not coming.

  2. Not surprised we’re going for Kone but I am surprised it’s being reported as close, given to outsiders like me it appears Bennacer or Saelamaekers aren’t on the cusp of a move away.

    1. Saudi transfer window closes later then Italy and most of Europe…..I think…..

But with Pobega and Adli gone, maybe there is room, but we need a striker to complete the team, Morata can not play 3 competitions, would struggle to complete all series a games, we need a forward, Jovic is sub at most and Okafor is an opportunist, can’t do it up front alone for 90 minutes.

They need to spend, getting players to agree this late in the window is easy, but clubs have to find replacements, especially the level we want, so let’s see how it all unfolds

      1. You’re right about the Saudi window.

But will we really sign Kone and just hope the Saudis come for Bennacer in September? Meanwhile if Benny doesn’t play then we won’t be in a particularly strong bargaining position, and the big money bids don’t come from Saudi anymore, reportedly they were trying for a fee in the 20-25mn region.

Yes they still offer massive wages but they even bargaining for Osimhen. Last summer they’d have straight away paid his release clause. Seems the winds are changing a little bit in that league

  3. It’s close, as compared to the distance between Sol and Alpha Centauri.

This is just tabloid BS. It’s not coming from official sources at the German club or official sources at Milan.

    1. If Milan had proposed the purchase of any Parma player from the onset, believe me you would have called for their heads…

    2. I would not sell Bennacer. It would be great to finally have real competition in the DM position again. Plenty of great players have been benched there for us before like Ambro.

      1. Who are you benching in our midfield? Benny? for who?

Bennacer-Fofana double pivot with CAM Reijnders is the best formation

          1. His short passes will be key in that area linking pivots with wingers won’t be an easy task, we need exactly someone like him. he’s better off being free like a true fantasista, plus we can utilize his long shots. Bennacer is way more of a regista and the control tower of the group. the Benny disrespect is getting old, ngl…

  4. correct me if i’m wrong but didn’t maldini want to bring him like 4-5 years ago from toulouse? Or it was Adli who plays in leverkusen also from toulouse? I know he wanted someone from toulouse

    1. Kone chose the monchengladbach over Milan 3 years ago and know he wants to comes I rather keep Bennacer and bring morata back up because Okafor is not a natural striker and the coach dnt put trust in Jovic

  5. I am wondering, who is the one in charge of getting or want Kone and the last purchase Fofana, is it Fonseca or the management?

  6. Fabrizio Romano @FabrizioRomano

🔴⚫️🇳🇱 Silvano Vos to AC Milan, here we go! Deal in place for Dutch talented midfielder.
Signature planned on Friday after deal agreed with Ajax for fee worth €3m plus add-ons and sell-on clause also included.

    Ajax wanted 10mil.
Just for comparison, Simic got sold for 3mil even though he had 10 months left on his contract. Vos had a contract until 2028.
    Same age, too.

    1. Fabrizio Romano @FabrizioRomano

🔴⚫️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿AC Milan remains in talks with AS Roma for Tammy Abraham, on top of the list since July… but still trying to involve one player in the deal.
NO talks with West Ham despite reports, West Ham is currently not working on Tammy deal.

  7. Acmilan is still making supendious mistake we need an attacking midfield not a defensive or central midfield this foolishness is too much

    1. Oga we need a defensive midfielder. 1st game against Torino, pulisic was overworked because he kept tracking back to defend when he had a double pivot behind him. So getting a AM would not solve that leakage we have had for some seasons now.

    1. I think the plan is to offload Bennacer and bring Koné instead. I’m not particularly excited about it but we already destroyed what was the 2021/22 midfield.
Vos doesn’t matter because he is U21, so no issues regarding registration.

  8. We clearly need another midfielder since Fofana is another box to box, the club seems to be doing their best to freeze out Bennacer, and Reijnders and Musah are more like porters opening doors for the other team to run through.

Quit the achievement needing so many goes to replace Tonali!

    1. Yep!

But we haven’t had a CB partnership last more than a season in 20 years so it’s not like this is anything new.

        1. Nope.

We’d just have had a CB partnership for more than one season.

But you keep advocating for constant disruption. It’s worked so well for 20 years.

  9. Another of Monday’s boy. He must sit in his office with his pants around his ankles watching tall black Frenchmen.

  10. 100 millions for midfield in two summers to replace Kessie and Tonali and they’re yet to get it right.

I hope this calls for heads. They were cut before for much less and while surpassing season’s goals.

    1. I already threw the idea of bringing Kessie back last season when he’s dumped by Barca. All those money and time to find his replacement when we can simply get him back.

Stop with all those emotional balderdash. One of the things that this management has been showing is less personal & emotional approach and more of professional & logical approach.

      1. Of course I am going to compare these new directors and ownership to our previous. Those managers brought us back to CL (to semis as well) and won Scudetto. They put out a plan how to get back to winning ways in 5 years with Scudetto targeted. They won it in 3 years. With tight salary cap and budget for reinforcements.

They are the only valid comparison in recent past.

And tell me, where did this new approach got us sports wise? Don’t mix it with finances as Elliott cleaned the books before RedBird. Like I said, 100 millions for midfield in two summers to replace Kessie and Tonali and they’re yet to get it right.
