Sky Germany: Milan star remains a ‘top candidate’ for Bayern Munich

By Oliver Fisher -

Bayern Munich are on the lookout for a new future number one goalkeeper and Mike Maignan of AC Milan remains high on their list of targets, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are on the hunt for Manuel Neuer’s successor because although he recently renewed his contract the management are aware he might decide to retire in the next couple of years, given he is in his late 30s.

The latest news is that Guillaume Restes of Toulouse is a profile that Bayern are ‘monitoring closely’ but the Frenchman is one of ‘over ten candidates’ who is being considered as a potential successor to Neuer.

The ‘top candidates’ for the moment remain Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz – who would both be internal options – as well as Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund and also Maignan.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reported last week that Maignan wants €8m net per season to renew his current deal with Milan which expires in 2026. Given he earns €2.8m per year, it leaves the management with a decision to make as he would become the highest paid squad member.

  1. 8M€ per season, omg we would need to sell a lot of Yankees hats and traditional rose/blue/green/violet third jerseys. Best if Furlani sells hims right now, then he can buy three or four goalkeepers.

  2. They are gonna buy Kobel 99.9%.

    A) cheaper than Mike &
    B) they can not not buy from “rivals” to keep supremacy in bayernliga.
Bayer is also gonna get raided

    1. Lol @ “Bayernliga”. Interestingly, Juventus has also kind of always bought from rivals. Serial winners both (albeit one also cheats).
