Sky: Ibrahimovic wants an ‘Ajax model’ at Milan – Vergine’s departure possible

By Oliver Fisher -

With Gerry Cardinale over in Italy for the Roma game, there was a chance to take stock of how AC Milan should plan for the future and some interesting information has emerged.

Sky reports that there was an operational meeting for Milan’s top management this morning, also attended by Cardinale. Barring any sensational surprises, the current management will remain for next season too.

That means Milan will move forward with the quartet of CEO Giorgio Furlani, Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio.

The decision was made to put faith in continuity and not to begin another revolution that would have brought Damien Comolli – the president of Toulouse – into the club’s hierarchy in some capacity.

In reality, a revolution at Milan is already underway: it is one that Ibrahimovic wants to carry forward as he dreams of creating an Ajax model for the Rossoneri.

In this sense, the possible departure of Enzo Vergine – the current youth sector manager who arrived from Roma just a few months ago – in favour of a figure who comes from the Netherlands cannot be ruled out.

Milan have decided to create an U23 team starting from the 2024-25 season, following what has already been done by Juventus and Atalanta. The plan is already outlined and includes Daniele Bonera as coach and Jovan Kirovski as sporting director.

    1. Ok and? Please spare us from these pointless kind of posts, we already have too much information in our life, and posts like these make that worse, so kindly restrain yourself from posting this kind of content

  1. Hopefully Ibra will try to Consult Milan to get Khephren thuram and Youssouf fofana because it’s really good options and smart ones so Milan can have players for the future and maybe David or Gimenez and Hartman or Meijer or really try for Frimpong or Geertruida. At last maybe try to bring Bardghji

    1. Why kick out one of the most competent Sporting Director in Italy, we are an Italian Club we need the local talent, it’s insane

  2. Why the Ajax model? What exactly does that mean? They haven’t done anything decent in Europe in quite a while! Milan needs a Milan model, to grow revenue so they compete with the other big clubs around Europe. Serie A needs to grow too tho.

  3. You can’t implement the Ajax model, whether to sell players for big money or to keep them, without playing the youth players in the senior team.

No amount of Dutchmen will change that realty.

U23 side is good but players are still going to need to go out on loan in the Serie B and Serie A.

Look at Soule and Hujisens. U23 is basically accelerating development to that first real Ioan. Players are generally not making the jump from u23 to Juve or even Atalanta because that is still a huge jump in quality.

They will have to consider incentives in the loans to convince the destination club to play the loaned player. It will have to be something like salary paid plus bonus fee for 250 minutes played.

It makes sense to me to keep it local but it doesnt really matter where.

Now, here’s the tricky part, if you want to produce players for the first team you need a patient transfer strategy that doesn’t fill the roster with mediocrity every summer. Whether we are AC Milan or not.

  4. Yet another change in direction? Yikes. I thought they were all in ” harmony “? What happened?
And why the Ajax model? The circumstances there are different to ours. It’s easier for them to win their league, plus they haven’t really shone in the UCL on a consistent basis and their fan base is ok with that. It’s two different teams (granted Ajax used to be a powerhouse waaaaay back). They basically groom young players to sell for profit. Hey wait a minute….🤔

    1. Yep they are a feeder club now. That’s why I stopped watching Milan. It’s not like I switched teams but right now when I wanna watch football I turn on Barcelona. They at least want to keeo their players
