Sky: Inter ahead of Milan in mercato derby over Azzurri success Retegui

By Isak Möller -

Mateo Retegui is the name on everybody’s lips this morning as he made his debut for Italy last night and got on the scoresheet. AC Milan have previously expressed their interest, but Inter are currently ahead.

Retegui plays for the Argentinian side Tigre and has impressed a lot since he joined them on an initial loan deal from Boca Juniors. So much that Roberto Mancini called him up for the international break.

Yesterday, he made his debut for Italy and pulled one back for the Azzurri in the game against England (1-2 loss). With both Milan and Inter looking for a striker in the summer, a mercato derby has emerged.

According to Sky Italia (via Gianluca Di Marzio), Inter have followed Retegui for over a year and are currently ahead in the race to sign him. He will be redeemed by Tigre for €2.5m in June and Boca will be entitled to 50% of the resale value.

Milan are also interested in the player but have not come as far as Inter in the process. On the other hand, they could accelerate and give the Nerazzurri a proper match.

  1. I really appreciate the effort to keep the content flowing but don’t you think it would be more worthwhile if you wrote about how he could fit with Milan or why Inter are more likely to sign him instead of a vague write up based off some second rate journalist’s tweet?
