Sky journalist explains why Ibrahimovic returned to Milanello: “He really cares”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to Milanello has sparked plenty of discussion, and one journalist has documented the details of his visit.

Milan are in a delicate moment having lost the derby 5-1 against Inter on Saturday evening and they need to bounce back immediately tomorrow against Newcastle United in the first game of their Champions League group stage campaign.

As the team arrived for their training session at Milanello today there was a surprise guest, with Ibrahimovic seen arriving at the training ground before speaking with Stefano Pioli on the sidelines and also CEO Giorgio Furlani too.

During an update on Sky, Peppe Di Stefano spoke live from Milanello about the return of Ibrahimovic and what it means, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to Milanello almost three months later, and from what we understand he should have even arrived a few days before the derby,” he said.

“Instead he arrived today, and by chance he arrived exactly when all the journalists were stationed outside the gates of the sports centre waiting to enter. The Swede was welcomed like a king by everyone: managers, employees but also players.

“Once he arrived, he went down to the locker room and gym to greet everyone. Then, Zlatan Ibrahimovic entered the pitch during training, greeted all the technical staff, hugged and spoke to coach Stefano Pioli and stood as if he were a manager on the sidelines next to Giorgio Furlani to observe the training ahead of Milan-Newcastle.

“I believe that Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to Milanello not only for himself, not because he has personal interests but because he really cares about Milan and understood that it was a complicated moment.

“Zlatan knows well that his presence, given and considering what happened this summer with the change in management, could help the group, help him perhaps reawaken pride in some players in particular because the defeat in the derby was not a defeat normal.”
