AC Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will have to show all their skill and strategy this summer operating under the parameters of the new owners.
Luca Marchetti spoke on Sky (via MilanNews) and confirms that there should be ‘no problems’ with the renewal of Maldini and Massara who will continue as directors, and there have been ‘no contrary indications’ to suggest either side have backed down.
He adds that the mercato budget depends on how the owners want to operate. As an example, Juventus viewed it as a three-year accounting period and that is why they went out to get Dusan Vlahovic in January but now must have a summer transfer window with zero net spend, and Inter need to make €60m in profit for this window.
The ‘skill’ of the directors lies in ‘operating within the economic boundaries that the club gives them’, Marchetti adds, so Maldini and Massara will have to work out how is best to approach certain targets given PSG want Renato Sanches for example.
One of the names that is being followed is Enzo Fernandez of River Plate, on whom there is also interest from Benfica and Wolverhampton that are further ahead on the negotiations at the moment.
