Sky journalist says Zirkzee would be ‘perfect for Milan’ as move edges closer

By Euan Burns -

Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has claimed that Joshua Zirkzee will be ‘perfect for Milan’ should he make the move from Bologna soon.

Speaking whilst on Carlo Pellegatti’s YouTube channel (via Milan News), Di Stefano spoke very highly of Zirkzee and showed that he think Milan are making the right move in pursuing the young Dutchman.

Milan are well aware that they need a new striker because Olivier Giroud has departed on a free transfer to LAFC which leaves Luka Jovic as the only conventional striker in the squad.

A whole host of names have been linked with the job but Zirkzee has long been the favourite for the Milan hierarchy, and the emergence of a €40m release clause that is active between July 1 and July 15 was the clincher.

As Di Stefano explains, though, there is the smaller matter of the €15m commission that Zirkzee’s agent has requested which is slowing the transfer down.

“It would be the best purchase that Milan could make in attack. But there is the commission problem which is not trivial. Unfortunately, commissions are becoming more and more relevant in the world of football,” Di Stefano said.

That aside, the journalist continued to praise Zirkzee and explain why he is the perfect player for what Milan need, and mentioned the considerable interest in him from abroad.

“Zirkzee would be the right man for Milan, he is the man from San Siro, he is the right man for the number nine shirt of Milan. He had many requests from abroad but he understood that he still has one step to take in Italy,” Di Stefano said.

“Milan’s game system is perfect for Zirkzee. Milan are not only looking for goals, but also a player who knows how to build. His arrival would also be important for some Milan players who could exploit his movements, like [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek for example. Unlike other names linked to Milan, he already knows Italian football and our league. It’s not easy for those arriving in Italy from abroad to immediately adapt to Serie A.”

  1. I’m convinced of that too. Zirkzee is the right man for us, he fits perfectly within our current squad, players like Pulisic, Leão and RLC could benefit greatly from his style of play, and vice-versa. I really hope all this will come to happy ending with guy finally joining us.

  2. And if we could dispense the money involved, I would give CDK another opportunity too. I feel that Pioli never understand properly his role on the field.

    1. I agree on all points save we still need a CB. Thiaw is a liability and I don’t think Kalulu is a top CB.

  3. Dunno if we can already make final and sound statement on Thiaw, man… He’s still on a formative stage, IMHO. But I agree that Kalulu is only a fairly good player. In any case, a top CB obviously wouldn’t hurt.

    1. Exactly, he’s a liability. Not one to be relied on. He was horrendous this year. Can’t be a penciled in starter. We need someone else.

  4. I don’t know if that boy is a real striker or not, and if he will be a goal for A.C. Milan, but i know that it is really nice to see him handling the ball on the field !

  5. “he already knows Italian football and our league. It’s not easy for those arriving in Italy from abroad to immediately adapt to Serie A.”

This exactly, I always stressed we need ready players if we want to compete especially when it comes to striker.

I really hope his signing is just a matter of formality.

  6. “move closer”, we either solve the issue with his agent or we don’t. If we neither accept to pay him 15M (and we shouldn’t) and he maintains his greedy posture, we should look somewhere else.

  7. Zirkees agent is actively ruining his career. He needs to sack that guy quick. It’s pretty obvious he just wants a pay day off him, why do you think he was trying to convince him to go to bottom half epl teams instead. He’s a clown who wants the biggest payday he can get, even if his client gets relegated…

  8. Milan wanted to sign him months ago, long before Fonseca was even being mentioned. Are they really so much convinced Zirkzee is the “perfect fit” for new coach with new ideas? Or just they make up some stories and Fonseca, as true yes-man, would accept what he has.

  9. Maybe my fears are wrong, but is a player who scored 12 goals last season really worth 40 million? I’m a tad nervous. I mean if he does wonderfully and he could very well, I will admit I was wrong.

    1. Did you see how the guy plays? Milan – Bologna for example.

The guy is not only about scoring goals, he is not your typical poacher. He is everything, a complete player with unique style, a phenomenon.

  10. wise signing, he reminds me a little of Firminho who was the unsung hero for Liverpool allowing Salah and Mane to more freedom to score goals. If Atlanta doesnt want to keep CDK, bring him back. With those 2 players we have good cover and they are right age for Milan to build a future attack.

  11. He’s nothing like Firminho. Finminho ran and ran and ran. He was not a consistent goal threat nor the one to lead an attack.
