Sky: Latest on Berardi, De Ketelaere and more – Milan’s mercato with RedBird

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are expected to reinforce their squad ahead of next season and with the official announcement of RedBird’s takeover, the work can begin. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have several targets in mind.

Elliott Management and Milan announced earlier today that the club has been sold to RedBird Capital. Shortly after, the latter’s CEO Gerry Cardinale more or less confirmed that Maldini and Massara will stay at the club.

Therefore, work on the mercato can now begin and according to Sky Italia (via MilanNews), there are several factors to evaluate. First of all, Divock Origi will arrive and Renato Sanches remains a top target for the midfield. As for Sven Botman, it’s a complex operation.

Milan will certainly invest on the attacking trio, per the report, and Domenico Berardi as well as Nicolo Zaniolo have been mentioned. Both are very expensive, though, and thus make them far from ideal for the Rossoneri.

Maldini and Massara are also looking abroad and one of the players on their radar is Charles De Ketelaere. They are following the Club Brugge man closely, although previous reports have suggested he’s expensive.

Speaking of the budget, the arrival of a new owner will only make Milan’s budget stronger than before. This was stated in the report, adding that the Rossoneri also need to define the situation of Zlatan Ibrahimovic (set to renew).

Finally, the players that are on loan at the club (Florenzi and Messias, for example) need to get some indications from the club and decisions need to be made.

    1. This was never the case. Just articles for clicks
Like Maldini said, there are other profiles. That’s the only definitive thing out of Milan wet Botman
To be frank, we dont need Botman imo

      1. we need him whether or not you like it. Romagnoli leaves we would need a left footed CB and Gabbia is too amateur.
        maldini knows more than you

  1. I don’t know, I might be wrong… but I fell that Milan doesn’t need Botman. Just stay woth current defence formation and renew Romagnoli contract. We can keep money allocation from CB to improve other positions. Backup LB, RM, AMF definitely needed.

    1. I agree, spending around 30m of our transfer budget, that is estimated to be around 120m is too much for a position that we could cover with Romagnoli. A top quality amc and right winger are absolutely crucial for this season if we want to try to defend the title.

    2. Been saying this for a while and I agree. I like Botman we just don’t need him. Romagnoli isn’t that expensive to renew (around 3.5m) so just do that. Then bring in a youngster to groom and loan like Viti or Lovato for the future).

We need to focus our budget on attack as there are many positions to fill and we need quality now if we’re going to move to the next level.

    3. Renew romagnoli’s contract ??????? Have you forgotten the campaign 2 seasons ago when inter Milan won it under conte ???, When ac Milan’s season exploded in their face after going the 1st half of the season unbeaten ? ,WELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THAT MILAN THAT CAME SECOND AND THIS MILAN THAT BECAME CHAMPIONS IS THIS MILAN , FISHED OUT THEIR WEAKNESS LINK IN DEFENCE ROMAGNOLI , from match they one ,boom they won the league, Milan need botsman because they need good backup should, tomori, kaluku get injured, and kajer remain injured.

  2. Yep, with Kalulu’s astounding levels of performance the signing of a new CB is not really a priority, considering that Kjaer is returning to action and also that Romagnolli seems intended to stay.

  3. I think milan are contemplating on Botman, while they’re likely to test Torino’s Bremer. Because of his Serie A’s Experience.

  4. I would choose between CDK, CDK, CDK and CDK. He will become world class player. 35 will be enough but with even 40 we must do this.

    1. This De Ketelaere guy is really good. I would try to sign him, Sanches, Origi and Lang, keeping Romagnolli on the side and already adding Pobega and Adli.

  5. Remember that due to the squad rule, Milan can only have 17 players over 21 years old not trained in Italy for at least 3 years between their 15-21 years age.
Kalulu is no longer U-21 next season, so he will take this quota. Kessie and Romagnoli are trained in Italy so they don’t take the quota, but Kessie leave and Romagnoli has not renew.

Club-trained players are also important factor, so I guess Milan will have to keep Plizzari, Calabria, Gabbia, and Pobega in the squad of next season.

  6. Without any signings or renewals, and assuming other clubs activate the option to buy of players loaned from Milan, here is the state of the squad next season:

    Club-Trained (4):
    Plizzari, Calabria, Gabbia, & Pobega

    Italy-Trained (2):
    Tonali

    U-21 (3):
    Maldini, Lazetic, & Colombo

    Other (17/17):
Maignan, Tatarusanu, Theo, Ballo-Toure, Tomori, Kalulu, Kjaer, Bennacer, Bakayoko, Krunic, Saelemaekers, Castillejo, Leao, Rebic, Brahim, Adli, Giroud

Over 21 years old non-Itlay/club trained players already reach the limit of 17 even before renewal of Ibrahimovic though he can simply replace Castillejo in the list. Bakayoko’s loan is likely to be terminated, so Origi can be put on the list if he join.

If Milan want to buy more non-Italy trained players, they will have to move some players. Replacing Tatarusanu with Italian goalkeeper, replacing, Ballo-Toure with Italian left-back, and loaning Adli will create another 3 quota.

  7. Milan will only get

    – Botman = €30 million
    – Renato Sanchez = €20 million
    – Divock Origi = free
    – Noa Lang = €20-30 million
    – and Florenzi = €4.5 million

Don’t expect RedBird will spend €100 million or more in the transfer market.

  8. What ac milan really really need is to free themselves from Rafael leao dependency, that kid practically draged ac milan to the title so other great creative and skillful talent are needed , berradi is a must along with players like Gerald deulofeu and di maria, players that can do a great creative job both as wide attackers or as a central attacking Midfielder, botsman as the 4th defender after kajer, kalulu ,tomorai , ROMAGNOLIS bye,bye thanks for your service.

  9. botman was needed before kalulu shone this season.. but I think maybe milan still need defender only for kalulu’s backup.. botman and bremer would be overkill for kalulu..
