Sky UK: Man Utd willing to trigger Zirkzee clause but ‘still plenty of work to do’

By Oliver Fisher -

Manchester United have told Joshua Zirkzee’s entourage that they are willing to pay his release clause, according to a report.

According to the latest from Sky Sports in the UK, United are in talks with Zirkzee’s agents after making it clear they are prepared to meet the Bologna forward’s €40m release clause this summer.

They state that there is ‘still plenty of work to do’ before a deal for the Dutchman can be concluded and that the Red Devils are ‘working on other targets behind the scenes’ as a result.

Sky reported last week Lille forward Jonathan David is on a list of potential targets for the Premier League side as they look for a new striker to be the deputy to Rasmus Hojlund, who they made a big investment in last summer.

Most sources agree that Milan have already communicated to Bologna their intent to pay the €40m clause present in Zirkzee’s contract and already have a verbal agreement over personal terms with the player.

What’s holding back the deal is the request of his agent Kia Joorabchian on commissions. The first request for €15m was rejected and it will be necessary to negotiate with him before the deal can get over the line.

  1. It’s a comment on the terrible state of modern football where the club who finishes 8th in England can buy a 55m backup for their 70m striker and outpay the club finishing 2nd in Italy. The English league is becoming a ‘Super’ league and destroying football, in 15 years it will be like the NFL.

    1. Even though they finished 8th, that is still Manchester United.
They are either the most valuable club in the world or 2nd behind Real Madrid.
I hope Milan gets Zirkzee, but let’s not act like we are talking about Brighton here.

      1. They’re Man Utd, yes, but 10 years ago the gap between Man Utd buying power and other top teams in Europe was a fraction of what it is now.

But not important to this story. I hope for Zirkzee’s sake he chooses Milan rather than to sit on Man Utd’s bench.

    2. Serie A used to be in that position 20 years ago. Things change. Man United have huge debts, that they can invest is because of the EPL’s lax rules. In any other league, they’d be banned from making transfers. Serie A and La Liga have heavily sanctioned the biggest clubs in the past, the EPL have no balls.

    3. English League isn’t run by decrepit dinosaurs like Serie A is. They did well to market the league and promote the sh|t out of it and make it the “most exciting” league to watch with all the marketing dollars that come with it. So now bottom half teams can outspend top teams in Italy.

While Italy rested on the laurels of their success in the 90’s and “failed” asleep as progress passed them by.

RESULT: Bottom half EPL teams can outspend/outbid most teams in Italy.

  2. So they want to splash 55m euro to make zirkzee sit on bench . Good idea , zirkzee can watch rasmus play every week from best view in bench . Now depend on zirkzee , wasted his career golden age just for easy money sit on bench ( MU offer salary higher maybe than ACM ) or play as main striker in ACM for more popularity and grab one spot in dutch NT

  3. I will be so disappointed for zirkee to let his selfish agent to drive his career on the wrong path. why play for more money to sit on the bench and never get opportunity to shine your talent. Fifa have to step up to stop those greedy agents for asking high commission.
