Sky: Milan €1m away from shaking hands with Spurs over right-back – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are very close to securing their third signing of the summer after Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic, with a deal for Emerson Royal very close.

As Sky report, Morata arrived from Atletico Madrid for €13m and Pavlovic will soon become official after he did his medical yesterday, but the Rossoneri are one step away from closing the Emerson Royal operation too.

The management have got closer to Tottenham’s demands in the last few hours with an offer of €14m as the fixed fee plus €4m in bonuses, and while Spurs want an offer of €15m plus €5m in bonuses it means there is only a gap of €1m.

The Brazilian full-back made 24 appearances last season for Spurs, scoring one goal, but he wants to start a new experience in Italy and is very keen on the idea of a move to Milan.

Pavlovic meanwhile arrived in Italy to undergo medical tests yesterday and the Serbian centre-back will cost Milan around €20m including bonuses. We are just waiting for the official announcement.

However, the report mentions that Milan’s summer work will not end after the signing of the two defenders, with the pursuit of a defensive midfielder still ongoing.

    1. I think I’m somewhere between you and the #RoyalOut. This could either be another master stroke a la Pulisic or a total flop a la CDK. We’ll just have to see what happens…

  1. Not convinced of him, but so far our purchase from England have shown to be success for varying degree. Tomori, Giroud, RLC, and Pulisic. Maybe he will be able to following their footsteps.

If he really join us, he will get my 100% support – just hope that he don’t bring Tottenham curse with him!

    1. I agree that he isn’t good enough or hasn’t shown it at Tottenham but he is different to the RB’s we have and could be an interesting addition. Banking on him flopping though. Hopefully he proves us wrong.

  2. I know i shouldn’t.. But i see the rival teams in Serie A getting active in the transfer market and getting the players they actually want, Juventus and Rome especially. It’s getting me doubtful getting a top 5 spot, and that’s the ambition of this management, getting qualified for CL

    1. We’re not getting the players we want? I agree Royal hardly gets the pulse racing but even he’s someone we want – otherwise we wouldn’t be getting him.

    2. They = their fans or they the club?

We = we the fans or we the club?

How can the club sign players they doesnt want to have?

      1. If you go down the list of your targets to the 3rd or 4th choice every time then that’s not the player you really wanted in the first place now, is it? He’s just the most affordable alternative in a long list of targets.

    3. The problem is not us not getting the players we wanted, but it’s the players (or our A targets) in the first place. Other than Pavlovic, our A targets are either not fit for the role (Fofana) or not worth a damn (Royal).

  3. Emerson factors may remain a mystery but it is going through apparently. I just hope he does well here. Don’t want another Ballo Toure.

  4. In this case, they = club.
While the management in Milan is jumping from plan A (in this case Emerson Royal) , to plan B, to plan C, then back to Plan A. Who ironically is the least favourable acquisition to the squad.

  5. Why do we even need a poor man Theo on the other side? What about all the talk regarding balance and sh!t?

Only way this could make sense is if they go and buy a very good anchor for defensive midfield who can drop between the two center-backs, and as far as I know Fofana ain’t that type of player, nor anyone else linked to Milan.

    1. not gonna find another Theo for the money we are comfortable paying. So RB can be “lamer” to help cover for when Theo surges forward. That’s the balance Fonseca wants.

      1. Well, that’s what I’m saying. It’s already lame enough with Calabria and Kalulu but at least strong defensively. Royal is the poor man Theo in attack but not even half as good as Calabria or Kalulu defensively.

  6. whenever i read articles about Emerson Royal and new (higher) RB, i’m wondering how come i never ever read the name Joakim Maehle in that context. Same type of player, but more quality, able to play on the left just as good, a personality, knows the league, longer contract ok but should still be very affordable.
