Sky: Milan could still make ‘important investment’ on a defender in January but loan is also possible

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could still choose to make a sizeable investment in a centre-back during the January window despite being eliminated from the Champions League.

Simon Kjaer is out for the rest of the season having undergone surgery to repair his knee ligaments, and Peppe Di Stefano of Sky (via MilanNews) reports that in next 15 days more will be known about what Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara intend to do, because Kjaer will have to be covered.

It remains to be understood if there will be an ‘important investment’ by the club – which is still possible – or if they will for a loan with option or obligation to buy type formula to try and defer the costs down the line.

It is good news of course given that there has been speculation circling suggesting that Milan will now consider other solutions such as terminating Mattia Caldara’s loan given the club missed out on an extra €15m+ that would have come from making the last 16 of the Champions League.
