Sky journalist gives Milan credit for Fofana operation: “The player who was missing”

Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano believes that the AC Milan management deserve credit for the way they handled the Youssouf Fofana negotiations and for getting a man who will make a big difference.

It was a real tug of war between Milan and Monaco which seemed to drag on for the best part of three months, yet a couple of days ago reports emerged stating that the two clubs were moving closer together in terms of offer and demand.

Fabrizio Romano among other sources is reporting that Fofana to the Rossoneri is a done deal in what will be a €25m package with add-ons included. The France international will sign a four year contract plus the option for further season, and will travel to Italy for his medical soon.

Di Stefano spoke live on Sky from outside Casa Milan this morning on the eve of the Torino game and he commented on the Fofana operation, which reached a positive conclusion after weeks of negotiations.

“He will arrive tonight, on Saturday morning he will undergo his medical and in the evening he will be at San Siro to greet his new fans. The most sought-after player of this Rossoneri summer together with Emerson Royal,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

“Milan must be given credit for having had targets, for having pursued them and secured them throughout the summer. The midfield objective was Youssouf Fofana and in the end the Frenchman arrived.

“[This was] Despite the difficulties especially the negotiation on the figure because Monaco were also asking for 35 million euros for a player whose contract expires in June 2025 seemed a bit too much. In the end, the point of contact was found on the twenty plus bonuses.

“Milan will have the player who was missing in the second half of last season, given Rade Krunic’s departure in January, and who had been missing since the days of Tonali and Kessié.

“A player who could act as a filter, help the defensive phase and also have attacking duties, someone who could complete the department. The purchase of Fofana is intelligent.”

  1. “Despite the difficulties especially the negotiation on the figure because Monaco were also asking for 35 million euros for a player whose contract expires in June 2025 seemed a bit too much. In the end, the point of contact was found on the twenty plus bonuses.”

    Look at that.
But some still wanna lie and say Monaco was asking for 25 m the whole time and Milan spent 2,3,4 negotiating months just to pay the 25 m Monaco was asking since the beginning.
Just like with CDK, they said. 😂
20m + bonuses down from 35m asking price, compared to 35m after 2 months negotiating, and even traveling to Belgium to unlock the deal 😂, to bring the price all the way down to 35 m.

    1. Yeah. Because that icon of the club had no transfer blocked by his employees for changing of ownership. That guy had like all 40 million to buy 2 starting players and 4 others, plus 4 mln salary caps after winning the scudetto. And had the attraction of playing in CL for 10 season in a row. Now let’s compare

  2. Yeah, milan management deserves credit for this but overall Monaco always asked for 25 mil, we all knew this since 2 months before but they offered 12 mil then 15 mil trying to bargain. If they pay 25 mil from the start he would have played on US tour and be available for Torino game… but we got him so that’s the most important part.

    1. No, he wouldn’t… He would have joined the rest of the team just like Mike and Theo after the US tour, which was about a week ago because of the vacation After Euros

    2. “Monaco always asked for 25 mil, we all knew this since 2 months before”
      Right, we all knew this.
Nottingham Forrest and West Ham apparently didn’t know this since they offered 30 and 35 million. I guess they were feeling generous by offering 5 and 10 m more than what Monaco was always asking
Also, Fofana wouldn’t have played at the US tour regardless because he was still on vacation after participating at the Euro’s. Did Maignan, Theo and Reijnders play on the US tour?
Fofana missed only 2 weeks of pre season and Milan saved at minimum 10 million

  3. Because it’s forbidden for us to believe in sky journalist.
Instead we have to trust words from people in this blog as the ultimate truth!
What do these so called journalists know anyway compared to fans on this site.
    Geez…

  4. He complements Bennacer very well. He is no Gattuso or Kessie ie not an aggressive CDM but he is solid defensively and good with the ball. That combination should be our midfield with Reinjders operating in advanced or roaming role in 433 formation. Great signing.

  5. “Milan must be given credit for having had targets, for having pursued them and secured them throughout the summer”

hope everyone caught that part ….

    1. There was never a question of what kind of players we needed and they were after – DM, ST, CB. Ok RB was probably a specific request from Fonseca. They said in interviews they are going to do targeted acquisitions this summer, getting missing puzzles and also look for opportunities. No one is attacking them for this, why are you stirring the pot again?
