AC Milan are into the final stages of their negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur for Emerson Royal and hope to close the signing of the Brazilian very soon.
As reported by Sky Sport Italia, an agreement between Milan and the Premier League side is not far away and Paulo Fonseca could have two defensive boosts before the match against Torino that opens the Serie A campaign.
Milan expect to close the deal with Emerson for around €15m, which is roughly halfway between what Milan first offered and the figure that Tottenham were holding out for.
Emerson himself has been pushing for the move to happen as he thinks Milan is the right place for him to get more game time and also play in the Champions League.
Having just secured the signing of Strahinja Pavlovic at centre-back, Fonseca is expecting to have another new defender to work with in the form of the ex-Barcelona man.
Emerson is expected to challenge Davide Calabria for his right-back spot in the team which could see the Italian raise his level compared to last season. There is a clear desire from the club and coach to have healthy and close competition in as many positions of the squad as possible.
I don’t fully get this right back situation… currently at the club there are 3/4 right backs: Calabria, Florenzi, Terraciano and we know Saelemaekers can play there as well. The issue seems to be – that aside from Florenzi injury – there is no clear best player out of this group, they are all average. So what Milan is doing is getting yet another average guy so club will end up with ultimately 5 right backs? A bit ridiculous situation.
IMO if they want to sign right back, in this situation either they should go for proven quality player, and if they want to sign yet another average one, then better not sign anyone at all…

Pavlovic has never been a LB, LCB sure, but LB is completely different, that’s why if Newcastle is actually interested in Malick Thiaw, just sell him and upgrade it by signing Kiwior who was actually played LB. Another tall vodka defender who will bring physicality Fonseca wants
with Emerson in the defense is covered. Emerson can play as RB and CB and sometimes he has been deployed to LB. that is a versality fullback as we have this in Salemakers and Pulisic up front.

Origi problem was his salary, and he was never a prolific scorer bar his important goals as super sub.

I think most fans are overreacting. He isn’t as bad as people make him out to be and will most likely become the starter, I believe he will win people over.
Emerson is a target for AC Milan and if terms can be struck, then Spurs will use the funds raised to go for Kayode.
