Sky UK: Milan again battling Man Utd for major summer target – the details

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face competition from Manchester United to sign another one of their summer transfer targets in Youssouf Fofana, according to a report.

The Diavolo and the Red Devils went head-to-head for Zirkzee a few weeks ago, before Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani decided to freeze the negotiations once it became clear his agent wanted €15m in commissions in order to close the deal.

According to what is being reported by Sky Sports UK, United intend to keep Scott McTominay despite interest from Fulham and Galatasaray, and they also wish to add another piece to the department.

Talks are ongoing with PSG over Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte but there is a gap at present between what United think he is worth and what the Parisians would be willing to sell for.

Sky state that Fofana is ‘another player the club are looking at’ – who has been linked extensively with Milan – but another route is making Sofyan Amrabat’s loan deal a permanent one, even if they will not pay his €20m option to buy.

There is still a chance that players leave to make room but Casemiro – who was of interest to Saudi clubs – now seems more likely to stay. A departure later in the window ‘cannot be ruled out’, though.

  1. Man Utd have Ugarte and Amrabat as the main target and alternative. So it seems they are still a way away from being serious about Fofana.

    1. Cardinale does not have money to pay that amount. He can only invest after we sell somebody significant, and that will inject money in the transfer budget. Looks like CDK and Saelemekeers money is what stalling everything for our great managment. They excepted they will generate the transfer budget by selling these 2 players. Unfortunately, Furlani’s managerial experience are from playing fifa manager mode and they are making the whole club suffer bcz of their imcompitance. Cardinale- zero money, Furlani-zero experience and Mocanda should pick good bananas for his groceries and gain more experience in scouting.

      1. Completely wrong. You’re an utter embarassment. There’s at least a budget of €80 million otherwise personal terms with 4 players (Morata, Pavlovic, Fullkrug & Samardzic) wouldn’t have been agreed nor would Milan have agreed to pay the €40 million release for Zirkzee and still pursued Fofana at the same time. Pushing the idea that the new owners are cheap, having invested over €100 million last season, €20 million to clean up the stadium and another €20+ million on Futuro. The owners are American, get over your petty racism or find another team to support.

        1. Don’t bother… When you read a comment and there’s zero objective take, just move on. Lord knows there’s too many to fight through…

        2. 120m from champions league, 65m from tonali sale.

This is what management has got at the end of last season.

20m cleanup + player salaries comes under serie A ticket sales.

          1. Chelsea have sold over €400 million of players over the past 4 seasons, Man City €300 million and Real Madrid €200 million. That’s how successful clubs operate. The owners are not lining their pockets with the revenue generated by the club. Stop complaining.

      2. Cardinale having or not having money is 100% irrelevant here. His money isn’t Milan’s money and vice
versa. When will people learn? I guess never.

        1. If an owner of a club is that much insignificant then he should not be an owner. Nobody asked him to buy AC Milan. We fans are complaining bcz we are smarter than you guys, who are okay with cardinale’s approach of not building a significant team.Than you should keep quit and let us speak. If us speaking make owners understand that we cannot have inter or juve or top/significant teams beating us in all compititions and address the concerns then it will benfit us all. We are fans reacting because we do not want to have so called projects done by owners as they will sell the club for their profit. We want a club which will be competative enough to win trophies each year not in every 5 to 6 years. We want AC Milan to be relevant so that nobody can do as they please.. If you don’t cry your mother will not feed you milk. No body asking you to voice but if you are calling us out then you are the worst as we are voicing so that our club does not come second to inter.

          1. If you are so much smarter than the others then why doesn’t it get through to your thick skulls that the owner doesn’t buy player nor does he finance the purchases. FFS, some people, I tell ya… But go ahead, act superior and think you know it best while we others can get the laughs of the day by reading your cr@p. 😀 😀 😀

  2. We are so much further than they are in signing him also he’s semi cheap and we made them lowers they’re price to 18 m just offer the money and sign him it’s not that much

  3. Everything could already be done and settled. But we choose to go the hard way. So be it. Like I said my expectations are close to 0 this summer and season ahead.

    1. They partnered with a Tequila manufacturer to help the fans in your predicament get through the season, Ted 😉

      You’ll be alright.

      1. The arrogance of someone who was so full of himself about Fonseca being just a wild rumour and media nonsense…

I get it, the cringy arrogance you use to reply to people here is a coping or defense mechanism of yours.

I tell you what, you can have my tequila shot too, you need it more.

  4. Like i said before, too much play low ball and then EPL clubs coming and the rest is only story but never materialize for milan.

    1. With regards to law balling, looking at our starting eleven players (I happen to think it’s a good one, could be wrong), the vast majority of them were bought for ~20M +/- 5M or less, including bonuses. I guess I don’t mind the club being patient and sticking to their framework, so long as Jeremy Menez is far from being our starting 9 and no Bonucci type players tweet “stronger than ever” and ask to leave in 6 months after a 40M dump.

  5. If we are battling anyone then we have already lost. We are only playing for the participation trophy. Its the trophy we win every year with this management.

    Milan trophy cabinet since cardinale.
    1. We have the best finances trophy
    2. The linked to players participation trophy
    3. Don’t spend more then 30 million on any one player trophy.

  6. LOLOLOLO…

What an EPIC FAILURE this would be to lose Fofana to United after months of negotiations. BUT it’s not like it would be anything new and it’s not like we haven’t seen this before.

I know, I know – the Redbird lovers already have the excuses ready: “well we shouldn’t pay more than 12M because he’s a free agent after next season” lol. Ya yup, sure. Because that’s how championship winning clubs operate.

We supposedly have 100M – so this deal could easily be closed at 18M reported and he should have already been posing for a Milan photo right? BUT we are cheap and we won’t spend anywhere close to 100M without selling players – so it’s more Redbird PR BS. Big clubs negotiate yes – but they don’t nickel and dime over a few million dollars. That is comical.

Hell we had no problem dumping Simic for a measly 3M – but can’t close a deal for a STARTING caliber DM – one that we desperately NEED – for another 3M????

    Hilarious.

Juve signed: DeGregorio, Thuram, Luiz, and will likely be signing Koopminers, Tobido and Cabal….

We can’t close one deal. And won’t spend more than 20M (looks like it’s even Less now) on any player LOLOLOLO.

    Good times

  7. AND – The excuse for not signing Zirkzee was he wasn’t worth 55M.

Ok that is debatable and not an unreasonable argument. Some felt he was others not. Fine.

So what’s the excuse now??? If we cannot pay 20M for a STARTING DM then Redbird have no business owning a prestigious and historic club like AC Milan. Go buy Udinese and enjoy.

    1. To the fans who say spending 55 mil on Zirkzee was not worth it. Zirkzee was a profile of a striker which all trophy winning team would like to have rather than investing money on profile who will hit the dawn in 2-3 years.. Same like Leao/theo were profiles which Maldini and co dared to buy them, which turned out to be world class and and star player. So not investing makes cardinale fan boys so happy.. But they will start blaming leao/theo and/or the coach for Milan not winning trophies for years rather then questioning their beloved owner why they did not invest on profiles that will become stars or world class and win trophies for your club rather then saving money and buying player who will just keep you top 4 and win no other trophies.. We all know Cardinale does not have funds to buy worldclass players. So now they are showing that they also do not have funds to buy a profile which could turn into that caliber.
