Sky journalist confirms Milan are ‘negotiating the termination’ of Pioli’s deal at present

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are currently in talks with Stefano Pioli’s agents regarding the termination of his contract with the club, according to a report.

Manuele Baiocchini gave an update on Sky (via Radio Rossonera) in which he confirmed that Milan wish to move forward with Lille boss Paulo Fonseca as their head coach for next season, but there is an issue to resolve first.

The formal steps can only begin after an agreement has been reached regarding the end of the relationship between Milan and Pioli, and there are negotiations required on that front given he has a year left on his deal.

While waiting to find out the evolution of the circumstances around Fonseca, Baiocchini added: “In the meantime the Rossoneri are currently negotiating the termination of the contract with Pioli and his agents, also to avoid having two coaches on the payroll.”

The same journalist reported two days that Pioli’s contract plus that of his staff costs Milan €11.5m gross on the accounts, and therefore the management to at least try to find some kind of meeting point regarding a severance package.

The official announcement of the new coach could arrive a few days after Pioli’s farewell, which will be at the weekend. There is also the game in Australia to consider, against Roma in Perth.

  1. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Considering how many bigger clubs are in the process of changing coaches it makes sense not to rush any decisions. However, Furlani has always appeared to be like the kid in school who got picked last and this scenario he helped to create seems no different.

(Why would a top coach come to Milan and be told each year we’ll sell a top player and buy who our algorithm says is good)

We offer no competitive edge and little room for freedom of expression- i.e. ability to buy players that improve the team overall/ that fit your system vs having to put square pegs in round holes.

  2. Game in Australia to consider? No one gives a sh!t about that game lol
They don’t need a coach to play a friendly in May
