Sky: Milan open new talks with Chelsea for Lukaku loan – the details

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have opened new talks with Chelsea in an effort to sign Romelu Lukaku on loan this summer, with Joshua Zirkzee still viewed as the main attacking signing.

As reported by Sky Sport Italia, the Rossoneri are pushing to have two quality strikers at the club next season and want Lukaku to go out on yet another loan.

Milan will be talking with Lukaku’s agent in the near future but Chelsea are not expected to be handing out any favours. Since rejoining the club and having a poor first season, Lukaku has been on loan at Inter and Roma.

The Premier League side would much prefer a permanent sale of Lukaku, but Milan won’t buy Zirkzee and Lukaku outright.

The Belgian striker is currently at Euro 2024 and with his side standing a good chance of getting into the round of 16, the deal is unlikely to happen quickly.

Lukaku scored 21 goals across all competitions for Roma last season, but the Giallorossi could not afford to buy him permanently.

His relationship with the Inter fans who used to adore him so much would be tarnished even further if he opted for a loan at Milan, but the Rossoneri are pushing to give themselves two quality attacking options.

    1. 309 goals in 647 club games, including three seasons in which he scored 20+ goals (including one in the PL), 85 goals in 117 national team games, strong as an ox, hold the ball up, is good in the air. Zirkzee would dream of having a career like this. This is like Giroud on steroids three years younger on arrival. His stats would be even better if he hadn’t been greedy and move to Chelsea, where he was dumped out on loan after one season like so many of their signings (Pulisic anyone?). Only children would reject this transfer because of some dumb antagonism towards his history with Inter or whatever other non-reason they can come up with.

    1. Ypu would rather keep Origi and Colombo, who probably in their careers have not scored as many goals as Lukaku did this season for Roma.
The question is TF is wrong with you?

      1. Yes the tf is wrong with you! Lukaku who earns 12 million per season and is already 31 let’s spend 30-40 million on a player who is almost done and is getting fatter by day. I would prefer to spend the money on a midfielder and let Jovic start and put ORIGI on the bench. If you don’t understand this than it fine some people are stupid

        1. Jovic and Origi will be your strikers but you think other people are stupid, 😂😂
If Milan is looking to sign Lukaku ans they are not a team that offers big salary Don’t you think he will come on an affordable salary? Milan sure as he’ll won’t pay him 12 mil.
Jovic and Origi ha ha 😂

          1. Firstly Chelsea will never agree on a loan deal. So at least 30 million would have to be paid. Secondly his wage is at 12 million don’t think he will go lower than 5-6 million but it’s fine like I said some people here are stupid. I never said Jovic and Origi are great strikers but if the management would go for Lukaku I would rather have them spend the money on a different position and stick to what we have.

          2. if chelsea pays 7 or 8 of those 12 and we “only” pay 4-5M i’d take it. Not a long term fix, not what we all want but Giroud wasnt a long term fix either and he turned out well. Love him or hate him, the man can score. (except in finals LOL … or with Belgium).

  1. Loan with option to buy and not huge wages wouldn’t be a bad option.

But if they want to get experienced player and give him bigger salary, then I’d prefer Rabiot. Would be cheaper (no transfer fee, just signing fee), is 2 years younger and less controversial.

  2. Chelsea don’t want to loan him out, it’s clear that they are searching to offload him on a permanent deal and he also wants to play under Conte again. So 0% chance.

    1. Agree, he will end up in Napoli or go to Saudi.

Milan maybe contacted Chelsea once just to ask about terms and what they think, and now press will come up with 15 stories over next weeks about it, because they have to write about something

  3. A loan wouldn’t be a bad idea IMO. We can always bail out of it if he doesn’t work and if he does, we atleast got ourselves a good striker.
My problem though with Lukaku is his inconsistencies and overall behaviour, so I’d rather we go for a better option.

  4. Lets be honest now, guy scores 15 goals in the league minimum, thats the same as Giroid this season + hes gonna have better players around him, like Puli and Leao.

This operation is minimal risk in my opinion. Better than any other striker that we are currently linked with for now, mabye not for the future but if we can get him on loand with option than thats a pretty good deal.

  5. Smart milan management. Just let go zirkzee, and pursue cheaper one lukaku.

There are a lot cheap forward. Like icardi, morata, depay, guarassy, tammy abraham.

  6. Not a bad punt tbh. Cost would be less. Yes wages high but all the others have transfer fees plus wages and are basically signed on potential/hope. Also gives us a year if we need to really focus on who we want to lead the line long term.
Clearly we aren’t the club to pay high commissions so those signings are excluded. Take our time and figure it out? I don’t mind
