Sky: Milan open talks with Romagnoli over contract renewal and will submit an offer

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have begun discussions over the possible renewal of captain Alessio Romagnoli, according to the latest from Gianluca Di Marzio.

It seems as though Romagnoli’s future at Milan has never been so uncertain over his six-year spell as it has now, with his deal set to expire next June. Any negotiation over a renewal would be complicated, given that the captain was benched after the arrival of Fikayo Tomori and it is unlikely they will agree to give him the same amount to renew.

Speaking to Sky (via MilanNews), Di Marzio gave the latest on Romagnoli’s contract, which expires in 2022. He confirms that negotiations have begun for the renewal of his contract and the dialogue has begun.

Milan want to renew Romagnoli’s contract, and the management plan to make him an offer, but it remains to be seen whether it is deemed appropriate or not by the player and his agent Mino Raiola.

      1. And for 20m you’re going to find a replacement of the same quality? Not likely. Yes, Romagnoli isn’t the second coming of Maldini or Nesta, but he’s a lot better than some of the other CBs we’ve had over the last 7-8 years. Remember Yepes, Bonera, Paletta, Gomez? And they were all starters at some point. Yikes. I’d be more than happy if Romagnoli was our first option off the bench, but only at a reasonable salary. I believe he’s at ~3m right now, so maybe in the 4-4.5m range. If he accepts great, if he doesn’t then we keep it moving.

        1. That’s true. Center backs are the most wanted players on the market. It is extremely hard to find even a mediocre CB. Even Liverpool and Real are struggling to land decent defenders. We’re lucky that we signed Tomori.

  1. I think its just a way of tying loose ends. Offer him a contract reflecting his present status, knowing Raiola he will most likely reject it. I never heard raiola’s clients take a pay cut, maybe balotelli who has wandered off in his career.
Also, where would Raiola get his commission from? I think he will prefer marketing him to other clubs for free and getting paid for that. Anyway, it does not move me, I would prefer him out as dealing with Raiola”s schemes Evert summer is a pain in the bum.
I never liked him as captain, he is not a big game player, no grit either. Easily bullied by big strikers. He was made captain due to club politics, not by hierarchy or quality, just like bonucci. I dislike them both.

  2. Good decision!
The guy is good, knows the club and experienced enough.
Plus he said recently that is the strongest Milan he ever played for so he’s motivated too.
