Sky: Milan’s predicted XI to face Venezia – Tomori drops to the bench

AC Milan boss Paulo Fonseca seems to have made his selection choices for tomorrow night’s game against Venezia at San Siro, according to a report.

In terms of injury news, the absentees will be Ismael Bennacer, Alessandro Florenzi and Marco Sportiello who will all be out for a while yet with muscle, knee and hand issues respectively. Malick Thiaw remains out with an ankle sprain.

According to the latest from Sky, Fonseca could make some changes ahead of the Champions League debut against Liverpool on Tuesday night, a crucial game where he will want his main men at 100%.

The report claims that Matteo Gabbia should start alongside Strahinja Pavlovic meaning Fikayo Tomori will get a rest after having played every minute of all three games. Emerson Royal should be the right-back.

Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao are back on the left side in place of Filippo Terracciano and Samuel Chukwueze respectively, with Christian Pulisic diverted back to the right and preferred over Noah Okafor.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will act behind Tammy Abraham who will start up front. Alvaro Morata has recovered from a muscle problem but he starts from the bench.

Predicted Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson Royal, Gabbia, Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Reijnders, Fofana; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Abraham.

  1. So, Tomori, who even though played all 3 games, was at Milanello the last 2 weeks, including 4 days off, is getting a rest, but Pulisic, who also started all 3 games and then traveled half way across the world to play 2 other games for his NT, doesn’t need a rest and is predicted to start.
Let’s be honest. If Tomori doesn’t start alongside Gabbia tomorrow, it just means that he can’t grasp playing in a defense that doesn’t requires him chasing around and focusing only on 1 player.
His positioning on the goals Milan gave up so far was abysmal.

    1. Fully agree. It is a technical choice and a choice that makes sense in my opinion. Tomori was already su-par last year and this year he does not seem to fit the system at all.

    1. Because RLC’s defense is far far worse than his offense. The guy has zero defensive skills.
Offensively, RLC is terrible as a true distributing type attacking midfielder. He is not very good at providing assists.
However, he has some ability as a penetrating sort of withdrawn striker, a false nine if you will. He does occasionally score in that role.

  2. Why not liberali, jimenez, traore ?, coz i believe this is a perfect match to try our young lads against greater pressure, … Foncesa never learn from the past (like what pioli treat our your player)

    1. if we had won our winnable first 3 games, this would be the right time for the youngsters. But 2 points from 9 means we have to make a statement win.

  3. Cheek ain’t an attacking midfielder, and neither is Reijnders. Both are centrer-midfielders. So either play Pulisic there and make it work (not by playing that horrible winger Chukwueze though) OR change formation to 4-3-3.

    Fonseca’s days are numbered anyway.

  4. I can’t wait for Inter to beat Milan again, I have said that Milan has the wrong coach. Emerson Royal, who cannot run, is playing RB; who Was supposed to play ATM and is being withdrawn back as a defensive player.

If Milan fans are expecting much from the coach, We will all be disappointed 😞.

  5. Mr Fonseca the problem you have you don’t listen to instructions bench Loftus cheek and play rejnder or liberali for attacking midfield then Loftus can play the double pivot very well he is not Good on moving the ball front. 4-2-3-1 is determined by the strength of the attacking midfield not central midfield Loftus is a central midfield he can’t be compactive in attacking midfield get this into your stinking brain

  6. Tijjani again a DM???? How blind you have to be to see that it doesn’t work???
He has been orchestrating in Dutch national team as AM for quite a while. RLC has zero creativity except his header skill.
    OMG why.
Tomori supposed to be benched long time ago.
Gabbia could get outplayed but he doesn’t do some sh*t reckless challenge and he doesn’t get unnecessary red cards

I am okay if somebody turn Gabbia apart rather than Gabbia himself doing some dumb things like Tomori does usually

  7. This formation is great, i hope we are being consistent with this line up.

If we can’t change the future, better destroy the present.

A draw with venezia, followed by double defeats by liverpool and inter. I know we can do this.
