Sky: Milan resume talks with Spurs over defender – latest on the centre-back pursuit

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan held talks with the management of Spurs over the potential signing of Serge Aurier, according to Sky reporter Luca Marchetti.

Milan went into the closed season with the right-back position seemingly their biggest weakness, after Davide Calabria and Andrea Conti both failed to offer assurances due to a combination of injuries, suspensions and general poor form.

A number of targets have been repeatedly linked, including Emerson Royal of Barcelona and Denzel Dumfries of PSV Eindhoven as well as Aurier, but Calabria’s impressive displays in preseason and in the first two competitive games have cooled rumours surrounding the Ivorian.

Nonetheless, Marchetti (via MilanNews) is reporting that Milan met with the Tottenham management – who are in the city anyway to discuss Milan Skriniar – the talk about Aurier.

Milan have made it clear that to set up a negotiation for the former PSG man they would first have to close a sale in that department but at the moment there are no signs in this sense.

Milan’s need at the moment is the central defender, and the main name continues to be Matija Nastasic of Schalke 04. The operation that could be accelerated in the next few hours, but in any case not before Sunday, given Milan’s commitments in the Europa League and in Serie A.

If, on the other hand, the sale of Paquetà to Lyon were to go through, an investment in a young player with great potential could also be considered, but at the moment the French side have not made a concrete bid.
