Sky: Milan will not sign Zirkzee or David – three alternative names remain

By Oliver Fisher -

The marquee signing of AC Milan’s 2024 summer transfer window will be a new striker, but it will not be Joshua Zirkzee who arrives as things stand at the moment.

According to what is being reported by Sky (via MilanNews), the chances of seeing Zirkzee join have declined quite substantially after the events of the last 48 hours, which started with the emergence that it will require big commissions to land the Dutchman.

Moreover, the fact that Vincent Kompany has officially become the new head coach of Bayern Munich does not help either. The Belgian worked with Zirkzee at Anderlecht where he had his breakout season, and is believed to be keen on reuniting with him, while Bayern have a preferential clause.

Jonathan David’s prices are falling on the striker stock market too. Paulo Fonseca knows him well given they worked together for the last two seasons at Lille, but the incoming coach believes the Canadian is not a suitable profile in terms of his characteristics.

The names that remain on Milan’s list are Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord and Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart. What they have in common is that they are more prolific than Zirkzee, in terms of goals to minutes.

  1. Feels like none of the 3 left are coming either.. Milan wont cash out on Šeško, just wont happen. Gimenez is overrated AF and again pricey. Guirassy, dont see it happening 2 be honest. He will pick bVb or england imao.

In the end it will be Iheanacho or someone random like that

    1. Guirassy can’t go to Dortmund surely, they already have Fullkrug, Haller and Maylen for that one role.

He has West Ham written all him though.

    2. if the random guy performs, so be it. I remember everyone here, and i mean everyone, including me, complaining when Giroud joined us. I remember the whole “we got Zlatan already” , “we need a good young striker”, “we are disgrace, getting chelsea rejects” , “he’s old, we are doomed ” bla bla. And look at us now.
We all hope for a big name, of course, but if we end up with a Colombo and the kid magically becomes a world class after a crappy loan (or at least decent, like Gabbia), i’ll be happy.

  2. I said last summer get Scamacca when he was avaliable for 20mil. Good luck finding something better now for that cheap. Our scouts have shown over and over that they are not good enough.

    1. Overpriced Italian with mental problems that mixes poor seasons with good ones (but not great anyways)… no thanks.

      1. he scored 19 goals in 2412 minutes played. Our Giroud did 17 goals in 3710 minutes played.. Overpriced? Atalanta bought him for 25M. Flopped in eng? He got injured, dude had knee surgery, was out for half a season.

Scamacca is good. And name someone who doesnt have mental problems. We’re all f*cked in the head. Its the basis for our human condition

        1. Well, ok but Giroud is 37 yearls old mate and not to mention he actually had quite a poor season.

Scamacca is overpriced because he is currently owned by Atalanta. It doesn’t matter if they paid 10 or 100mil, look at price tags they had for past sold players (Hojlund 75mil EUR, Romero over 50mil EUR, Gosens 30mil EUR etc). There is no way Atalanta would sell their player to local rival like Milan without setting huge price tag. To add to that no tax benefint as he is a player from within Italy and his not amazing stats = it doesn’t make any sense.

        2. Wow your stat is superb dude. Anyway, scamacca will retire early if he join milan. This club have bad history handling fragile player.

    1. Still better choice than paying 40M+ EUR for kids with one good season in way smaller clubs… If they would only provide a backup, experienced striker for Okafor (maybe De Jong from PSV?) then I’d be more than happy.

  3. Summer and the transfer window haven’t even started yet and there will be many more conflicting media articles! I didn’t even count on Zirkzee and Sesko as serious reinforcements because it was immediately obvious that for some reason it would be difficult to bring them. I think that the name of our new potential attacker will be revealed sometime in early July. I believe that there will be some new names that have not been mentioned yet. Honestly, I’m more interested in how they will arrange the defensive part of the team.

    1. But is it bad actually? Nowadays a lot of clubs set huge price tags for any young player with one good season. And big clubs would buy these overprices kids just to drain all that money down the pipe.

Clubs like Man United would pay a lot of money for any hyped young player (like paying 100mil for Antony) just to be at the similar football level as Milan after years.

And question is – are guys like Zirkzee, Sesko or Gimenez worth paying around 50mil EUR? They had one good season in their lives… Eg. Barcelona paid 2 years ago 45mil for Lewandowski, proven goal-scorer, and Milan would like to pay even more for kid with one good season, who may turn out worse than Piatek? No way

      1. What are you talking about honestly?

Any decent football player costs at least 30 million

A good player costs 40 -50 million. Its been like that for so many years now. Ofcourse if you want to sign a player that’s good he will cost that much.

So ofcourse there worth it. Being a striker is not just about how many goals someone scores there’s so many factors involved and allot of big teams are chasing after players like zirkzee because of his all around game.

In conclusion they are by no means over priced by any stretch of the imagination. These are the prices for good players if you can’t afford that then you buy players like milan who are hit and miss. Like reijnders who can’t defend like pulasic who won’t turn up to big games and like musah who only run around the pitch aimlessly allot of the time.

I’m not saying there bad but these are not ready to go players but the players that cost 40 -50 million are ready and baked to perfection, you can eat them right out the oven ( it’s an analogy).

  4. This team has two elite wingers. When you have that. There is not much need for a big time striker. Think of the Liverpool teams with Saleh and Mane…they didn’t need anyone else. If anything sign a striker who is good at hold up play and penalty shooting…and offensively we will be fine. Take the money from striker and buy a top flight defensive midfielder…and this team achieves balance. Paying top dollar for a striker seems wasteful. Please please please invest in the defense.

  5. I love how the press have decided just because Kompany worked with Zirkzee, that means he’s going back to Germany. Idiots. Kompany is nothing as a coach.

  6. What this team need is a good feeder from the midfielder and flank..no srtiker/forward can have a good season if his supporting midfielder is player like Musah..!

  7. Shocking lol.

Where is plan F? As in sempre “fregatta”

Aren’t we supposed to have like 100M to spend this summer – was that including player sales

So why is 50M too much for a starting caliber striker? I know I know – Redbird!!!

Same old story. We are lucky if we sign Guirassy. But I’m sure we will miss out on him too due to our wage cap.

Some can’t sign anyone good – But hey – at least we are profitable!!! 😂😂

    Good times.

    1. What are u on about? We clearly won the budget Scudetto this year as well as the summer transfer Scudetto. Those will be etched in the memories of fans for years to come. We’ll put it in the trophy cabinet at Casa Milan 🤭😂😂😂

  8. I’v been thinking how if we sign marco reus? He is great and full of experience and most important, he is free..! He Will be a great role model for our young team

    1. At this point of his career he will try to find a team that will give him nice buck for living after football, with less intensity, like MLS or Saudi. If he still have fire for competitive matches, he will stay at Dortmund. That’s how much he loves the club.

  9. What is going on with Jovic?
Wasn’t a decision supposed to have been reached by now on him?
Are they waiting to see what Fonseca thinks of him first?

  10. From the start, milan never wanted zirkzee or David. They style not fit with milan beside the prices was high and never matched the milan pocket. This is just media blufff…

  11. I think probably it is good to raid Arsenal again. This time round for Eddie nkietiah. There are obvious reasons for this transfer. We need a striker who is hungry and eager to prove his worth. Nkietiah can be the man if he stays fit throughout the season and he doesn’t always go to the treatment table. Look the dude has been well drilled by arsenal and all he needs is a platform to deliver. We can provide him with the fundamental to succeed in the division here. It could well be another coup of the season if the price is right. 40~45m should tempt arsenal into a sale.
