Sky journalist explains why Moncada attending training was ‘an important signal’

The mission to recover a strong sense of unity has begun at Milanello today with Geoffrey Moncada present at training, according to Manuele Baiocchini of Sky.

A number of different figures have ended up in the crosshairs after the defeat against Fiorentina on Sunday night, one which meant that Milan missed out on the chance to go second in the table despite a stuttering start that has seen them win just three of seven games.

That record extends to three of nine games when factoring in the Champions League so far and there is pressure on Fonseca to turn it around, but also on the players to take some accountability and also the management’s summer choices are being questioned as well.

Speaking live from the training ground today, Baiocchini offered an update on Milan’s return to training which of course took place without the many players away with their national teams at the moment.

“Moncada arrived at Milanello today to watch Milan’s training. I think it’s an important signal from the management, who want to stay close to Fonseca in this complicated moment,” he said (via MilanNews).

“The team will have to find solutions together with the coach and better manage those somewhat annoying incidents that have happened in the last few games.

“The Rossoneri leaders are not helping the team as they should, it’s a moment of nervousness. Milan will have to start again with a different spirit and above all with a different points average.”

  1. It’s so predictable. Our season will be filled with high and low kind of episodes. Playing great games in certain matches, and then all of the sudden back to square one. We need a coach (and management) who can provide the sense of stability in this team.

    1. The management’s continued support for Fonseca should make it clear to the players that he’s here to stay. However, great coaches do not hesitate to bench underperforming players.

Tomori, Theo, and Emerson are simply not performing. Our midfield lacks the depth to apply pressure on these two starters.

      1. Theo effectively benched himself for two league matches.
Tomori needs some time-out after the penalty fiasco, bringing Pavlovic in for him should work well against the Physical Udinese, Club Brugges and Bologna. I’ll bet Fonseca plays Tomori in one or two of those games anyway because of “rotation”.
Emerson I have no idea who to replace him with. Calabria re-injured himself before Fiorentina, and he’s not been great this season either. Recency bias would make us want Davide on the pitch, but I would actually like to try Jimenez and Bartesaghi (if not Terracciano) on the flanks in the next games and see how they perform.

      2. musah…offensively and defensively in the first few games of the season did enough to lead the team in a ton of categories…passing completion (backed up by the way he moved the ball when he got some min vs lecce before they went down a man). assists/90, progressive carries/90, tackles won/90, on/off/90 / every advanced defensive metric. 4 goals for, 1 goal against with him on the pitch…they refused to sell him just to sit him? Relieve Reijnders of being the only one who can move the ball through the center of the pitch…you could have him at the 10 and have musah be the connector…instead you have pulisic dropping deep into the midfield just to give the team a second option against a mid-block…I don’t think it’s Fofana’s fault; he just seems like he needs to conserve energy in the build-up so he doesn’t move a ton. The pivot of musah and reinjders already proved against the likes of PSG, Newcastle and Dortmund that they can play with any midfield…

  2. The management supporting a mediocre coach that the players do not respect will case many of our top players to leave. The sooner they fire Fonseca, the better. When top athletes smell weakness it is over. Fonseca will be fired, it is nota matter of if but only when.
