Sky: Napoli ‘pushing hard’ to sign Szoboszlai – why Milan’s pursuit has stalled

Napoli appear to be leading the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai as Milan’s pursuit is on hold, it is claimed.

Szoboszlai has been extensively linked with a move to the Rossoneri in recent weeks, with Calciomercato.com reporting earlier today Milan are still in pole position to land him despite the pressing of Napoli.

Salzburg sporting director Cristoph Freund spoke to Sky after their game on Wednesday night and confirmed that no deal is in place with any club regarding the teenager.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio remarked that Napoli are ‘pushing hard’ for Szoboszlai, a player they are ‘intrigued’ by and who has a €25m release clause, but Allan must be told first.

He adds that Szoboszlai has two offers from the Bundesliga – where RB Leipzig and Dortmund have been linked – and that Milan can only return to the race if and when Ralf Rangnick signs a deal to become manager.

Until he puts pen to paper on a contract, he will not officially start working on transfers and negotiating on behalf of the club.
