Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has claimed that Sandro Tonali dreams of a return to AC Milan, but it is virtually impossible this summer.
Tonali was sold to Newcastle United for a huge fee back in the 2023 summer transfer window, and it is still a bitter talking point for a lot of Milan fans, who were envisioning a long-term future with the Italian at the heart of the midfield.
After serving a gambling ban, Tonali has since established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and by extension around Europe too. There is often talk that surfaces of a return to Milan one day, but the way he is playing is pushing it further into the future.
Tonali’s captaincy dream
Di Stefano spoke to Radio Rossonera about a number of topics, including the need of the ownership to give Massimiliano Allegri carte blanche when it comes to the transfer window. He was also asked about a potential future back in Italy for Tonali.
“I think Newcastle’s demands are out of reach for Italian clubs. Sandro is worth €80-€100 million, who can afford that? I hope he stays in the Premier League, or at least at a top-flight club. Then everyone’s hope is a return to Milan, but right now that’s impossible,” he said.
“But Sandro shouldn’t even consider returning to Italy; he’s one of the best midfielders in the world, he’s got the Premier League muscle. The mistake was selling him, but now how can you even think about signing him for those figures if you don’t spend more than €30m.
“In the future, I hope he can fulfil the second part of his dream: to play for AC Milan again and be their captain, but everyone will have to hope for that. These aren’t the right times – Sandro’s worth too much to even consider a return to Italy.”

He is worth 80-100 million lmao. What a joke.
Milan can afford him at the tail-end of his career at like 34-35… maybe…
But one has to ask, what would this team look like with Tonali, Reijnders, Rabiot and Modric in it…
We sell our best players instead of strengthening around them.
It doesnt work like that. If we kepth Reijnders and Tonali we wouldnt get Rabiot and Modric.
Sometimes I too think this way
Tonali and Reijnders…sigh. I
They can have a deal with him, at the end of his contract, they bring him back to Milan.
In the sametime, they get rid of Fofana.
Or sell Leao and bring back Tonali.
