Sky: Pioli informed by Milan of desire to part ways – what happens next

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have finally informed Stefano Pioli of the decision to part ways with him at the end of the season during a meeting with his agents, a report claims.

According to Sky, the ownership will officially communicate the termination of the working relationship with Pioli, who has already been informed of this desire in the meetings that took place at Casa Milan with his representatives in the last few hours.

There is no agreement regarding any severance pay for now meaning that the club will continue to pay him and his staff until the coach finds a new position, with a number of different clubs having been linked.

Pioli will take charge of the Rossoneri for the final time during the game against Salernitana on Saturday, therefore. Whether an official statement will come out before then regarding his fate is unknown, but either way he should get an excellent send-off from the fans.

The report reiterates that the management have chosen Paulo Fonseca to replace Pioli. The former Roma boss said no to the contract renewal proposed by Lille and will do the same with the offer from Marseille, who wanted him even before Milan came in.

It is not an economic choice because the two French clubs offered more money but rather the shared ambition to start a medium-term project with a three-year agreement. In addition to that, planning has already begun for the summer mercato and two signings are likely to be requested.

  1. So they’re going to sack Pioli and give him his severance pay just to hire Fonseca then.

Cardinale is a God of trolling if this really happens.

    1. Right , because they should’ve fired him right after bringing the team it’s first Scudetto in 10 years. Brilliant comment.

      1. No. They should have fired him after it took Juventus being stripped of points to get into the CL because he doesnt know how to rotate a squad to save his life.

        1. But he did bring the team to the semi-finals of the Champions League that same year, correct? Even with all the injuries.

          1. Weren’t you the same @K that was telling us that we can continue to criticize Pioli as much as we want but he will still lift the Europa league trophy in Dublin?
I am watching the final right now, and I don’t see Pioli.
Are they going to bring him out at the end to lift the trophy?

          2. The injuries because he did not manage the rotation well. Also look at players he discarded because they were brought in by Massaro + Maldini. Case in point CDK Europa League winner.

            Well, they have been
            winning haven’t they. Same
            people that complained all
            the way through the
            Rennes ties will complain all
            the way through this one
            and the next won. They’ll
            probably be complaining
            while we are raising the
            trophy.

Are you sure you didn’t say it?
Are you sure I make up stuff?
I remembered it because you and Boulden disappeared after Pioli got destroyed by De Rossi but you 2 were the loudest in your support for him.
You can find it yourself in the player ratings for the Milan Slavia Prague game where Milan won 4-2 after giving up 2 goals while playing 11v10.
Don’t let facts stand in your way of back tracking though.

          4. @Z I wasn’t saying they would win it, I said the idiots like you would still be complaining while we were raising the trophy if we had. The irrational hatred for a coach who brought the team it’s first Scudetto in 10 years and people still wanted him gone at the end of that season. You probably one of them. He does by the way I think have one of the best if not the best winning percentage in Milan coach history, but yes he is just the worst. Be careful what you wish for…

          5. @K
Idiots like me, who could see past their nose, were telling you that based on what we saw in those games vs rennes and especially Slavia Prague that Milan has no chance to win anything with Pioli as a coach. They were getting outplayed by a 10 men team
for most part. And guess what, the idiots were proven right.
When it comes to “watch what you wish for”, I’d rather have a “genius” like you coach Milan next season than Pioli.
BTW, Milan finished 5th last season on the pitch, 8 points behind Juventus, not 4th.

        2. Y’all love to call for rotation and when he does rotate still complain. Pioli rotated the entire XI for a league game vs Bologna and before an important European cup tie because we all thought we were 10 points ahead of Juve and prioritized the UCL. Then two weeks later the league resinsated back the points, then took them away later on. If we played with the full team knowing what the league would have done and won, then the points deduction is a moot point. Juve is a moot point because of the decisions made by Pioli due to the league flip flopping on Juve’s penalty during the season. But ppls memory is always convenient.
And oh yea, u guys just seem perfectly fine with Juve literally cheating to get points like cooking the books to buy a striker like Vlahovic. Their whole board and president resigned (to escape deeper punishment mind you, if you guys didn’t understand why they did that) but y’all treat it like just another day at the office lol 😂. Why is it our fault Juve cheated ? LMAO 🤣 🤣 🤣

          1. Didn’t priorities shît.. cl is what 6 games? We had more than 6 poor games. We had poor games when there was no eu games..

Reality is that cl run was a fluke. A lucky break..and it means jack shît. Lets go ask bayern how they enjoyed reaching semis this season and what it means

          2. “Didn’t priorities shît.. cl is what 6 games” you don’t even know what I’m talking about so why even respond. Did u even recall “the” Bologna game (only last year) that was sandwiched between the two knock out UCL games? This wasnt group stage. And besides the point was in reference to Pioli not rotating. He literally rotated all the outfield players…twice. he literally played 10 non starters on purpose before a second leg tie and then played his starters in the UCL How is that not prioritizing?

        3. It didn’t take Juve being stripped of points.

That decision was made BEFORE the end of the season so was factored in as Milan focused on getting to the SEMI-FINALS of the Champions League just two seasons after our return to the competition after an absence of a 7 years – all thanks to Pioli.

But thanks to everyone we’re now getting Fonseca instead. I’m so glad for your misguided ambition.

          1. The league flip flopped. One moment Juve had 10 points less, the 10 points more then 10 points less iirc. Teams made choices based on the league table because of the standings

      2. That was 2 years ago.
Year and a half ago is January of 2023. The worst month in Milan’s 125 year history. That’s what Pioli brought to Milan after 125 years.

  2. I hope I’m wrong but I can see Pioli’s Napoli finishing ahead of us next season if the club continues to behave this shambolically.

Although maybe he’ll wait the year to get the money he’s rightfully owed first.

He’s been the best manager we’ve had in years and we’re paying him to go and hire someone with a worse recent record (be it Fonseca, Conceicao, Di Zerbi or whoever we end up with).

    1. You said my mind. Pioli is far better than all that they mentioned. And is that how they are going to bridge the gap with Inter Milan? Your name is sorry

  3. Thank you Pioli for bringing this club back to glory. For winning it’s first Scudetto in 10 years (with probably the 3rd or 4th best squad in the league) and back in the Champions League every year now. Last 4 seasons under Pioli:
    2nd place
    1st place
4th place (semi-finals of Champions League)
    2nd place

Let’s hope the next coach will do as well, they sure could do a lot worse.

  4. Thanx Mr P for the scudetto…you have added your name to the Milan history and for that we are eternally grateful…sadly the cycle has come to an end and it is there for all to see. Wishing you well…

    1. Look at this i.diot. I dont call ppl names often but sheeet. 5 years late? You don’t want the 19th Scudetto? Smh 🤦‍♂️

      1. Yes we could’ve never won again in history without Pioli, god forbid we had signed Ancelotti, Gaspierini or any number of other coaches instead. Idiot.

        1. Very dense take. You make zero sense.

What about Allegri and the Scudetto he won?

What about Ancelotti and the trophies he brought?

    2. Pure speculation.

Theres no guarantee that Gasperini would’ve done the same at Milan. He’s found the right conditions at Atalanta.

What we do know for an absolute fact is that Pioli helped return to club to the champions league after a 7 year absence, and delivered a scudetto.

It’s a shame you can’t enjoy that reality but instead spent the past 5 years living in some alternative reality.

      1. Magically a coach who has been class for years would suddenly fail with us, a team with a much bigger budget and players. I know we wouldn’t be relying on Juve getting deducted points or constantly getting whooped by Inter with him or numerous other coaches who understand how to adjust their tactics and squads.

        1. What you fail to appreciate is that circumstances and timing are everything.

Chemistry and luck are two of the biggest determining factors.

That’s why football and life is so unpredictable, and why when you find a winning formula you stick to it.

There’s too many examples of players and managers changing clubs and going from great success to great failings.

      2. We also know for an absolute fact when Gasperini was in the lights of Milan he flopped badly. He’s now at a club with lower expectations for a reason. But somehow ppl see grass greener and if he comes here what’s to guarantee he doesn’t re-flop again? Ppl keep saying Ancelotti like our squad is built for the UCL. It isn’t. And it’s not a guarantee he’ll win with this team either much less want to come here. He finished 5th in 07/08 outside of a UCL spot. Same issues for Klopp. Can’t stress enough that point.
Give ppl an inch they’ll take a whole yard.
Dude upset about Pioli coaching the last 5 years in which time I thoroughly being 2nd, Scudetto, 4th and 2nd. Add in a nice little UCL semis. These guys can go kick rocks

      3. Agreed.

100% Pioli deserves praise for what he has been able to accomplish here. I hope he receives a fitting send off.

Sure he had plenty of shortcomings but credit when it’s due.

  5. Exciting times… I just hope Cardinale’s Crew doesn’t f**k it up with the coaching appointment. Going from Pioli to Fonseca would be ridiculous.

  6. Ademola Lookman hat trick in the final of the Europa league.
Can you imagine Milan’s left winger stepping up and scoring 3 goals in such a big game?
He cost Atalanta only 9.5 mil.

      1. After all he’s the first ever to score a hat trick in Europa league final. Other greats that played in the competition didn’t and he did doesn’t mean that others can.
Messi or Ronaldo never scored a hat trick in the champions league final and that doesn’t make them less of who they are.

You think like a toddler you fool.

  7. PETITION IN PLACE:

There’s a petition on change.org against hiring Fonseca. It only needs 400 more signatures.

Search for “Salvo pressioni ambientali” on change.org

I tried to post a link but it doesn’t work.

      1. This is all because management listened to all those entitled fans with that Nopetegui cr*p. Next they’ll be demanding a say on transfers and kit design.

        1. But I thought you lot don’t fall for such media bs? Weren’t you laughing away reports that fans influenced the decision to not hire Lopetegui?

  8. Gasperini just schooled Xabi Alonso. The way Gasperini was making moves before anything even happened on the fieled was amazing. Such good reading of the game. Maybe we should sign him cause if he can do this with Atalanta players imagine what he can do with much better players.

    1. Yeah, took Xabi Alonso to school.
To everyone that hyped up Pioli lucky draws to go all the way to the UCL semi finals last season, Gasperini and Atalanta beat Sporting, Portugal champion, Liverpool, was 1st in EPL at the time, and Bayer Leverkusen, German champion and undefeated team, to win the Europa league.
Pioli with better squad had hard time beating Slavia Prague, and got schooled by De Rossi and Roma.
The difference between Milan and Atalanta is in the coaches.
      Good riddance Pioli!

      1. Most Atalanta players didn’t look like anything special, maybe some move here and there. But the space that they open up as a team was amazing. Same with the way they cover for eachother.

        1. Before anyone say “but Lookman scored hatrick,” ask yourself if he would’ve done that without the right side drawing Leverkusen players and opening up space for him.

        2. Ederson and Koopmeiners were great all game long. The only Atalanta player who was poor in possession was CDK, but he did cover a lot of ground defensively.
          Lookman was great.
Gasperini would be stupid to leave Atalanta for Napoli. I don’t think Napoli is even going to play in Europe next season, while Atalanta is playing in UCL. He is king in Bergamo, while at Napoli he has to deal with that nut job De Laurentiis.

          1. I think Koopermeiners is their best player in general. Everyone looked good tonight, but if you take them out of the system i think they wont be anything special like induviduals with few exceptions of course. If you give Leao that much space and one on ones i bet he will score pleanty of hat tricks. You have a point about De Laurentis lol. It won’t be bad if Gasperini comes in Milan too.

          2. It’s more towards the challenge. He already said it himself. After 8 years in Atalanta, giving the team his first trophy on his last year seems like a nice good bye.

Still and all it’s sad to see him go when the team is on its ‘peak’. Same case with Motta.

  9. Absolute domination by Atalanta. Gasperini totally outsmarted Xabi. That was a perfect game by Atalanta. Bayer Leverkusen couldn’t do anything.

      1. Maybe their focus was tonight’s match and not the one vs Juve. It is obvious Gasperini had prepared the match to every detail, so much that Leverkusen did not even come close to scoring a single goal.

        1. The difference is Allegri scored early and shut down shop. Plugged up in defence. Whereas Leverkusen play more open – and that Atalanta is great against.

          Lookman was on another level.

      2. They outplayed Juve too, but i think playing two games per week for a couple of weeks in a roll took its toll. They had some hard games before Juve. Not sure why seria A even put the final cup there it was a very thight schedule for Atalanta. Anyway this title is much bigger.

        1. Yeah the schedule too had its effect. But still vs Juve they were not even remotely as good as tonight. Their two best matches of the season were the one vs Liverpool at Anfield and tonight’s. It seems that they gave more attention to the UEL opponents.

          1. Maybe it was Allegri that outsmarted Gasperini… but then I doubt many fans would consider that as a possibility.

  10. Pioli has over stayed and should go back to relegation surviving club or mid table club but not AC Milan if we want to bounce back.
He’s a destroyer of a bright future and we all can see the true meaning of a rejected stone in the case of CDK who he intentionally played out of position and tonight he won the only cup that Milan has never won in their history. Am so happy that finally he’s going and I hope we have a better coach who is hungry for silverware
The sacking of Pioli is a victory on its own and a step forward to progress.

  11. Grazie Pioli for all you’ve given to the club and players. Who knows if Fonseca (if he’s the chosen one) will do any better….

  12. Not anything against Pioli but as this has become the default Atalanta vs Leverkusen thread, man that was a masterclass in tactics by Gasp. He shut down their every avenue for attack and played as a true team. Loved how Lookman destroyed them. Twas enjoyable. And to top it off, CDK is now a major European trophy winner lol 😂. Irony, sadness and joy all at the same time 😅

  13. And after Pioli then comes Fonseca…I not to interest with the Fonseca as next coach.

    Better Gasperini or Conceicao

Dakle TOTALNA NESPOSOBNOST Furlanija i društva oko njega
