Sky: Probable Milan XI to face Hellas Verona – changes in all four departments

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is expected to rotate some players for the game against Hellas Verona, in view of the important commitments to come.

According to what is being reported by Sky, there will be a change in goal where Marco Sportiello will take the place of Mike Maignan who went off during the last game against Newcastle with a small muscle problem.

There will be a change in the defence again too with Simon Kjaer coming back in to partner Fikayo Tomori at centre-back giving Malick Thiaw a rest, while Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez should keep their place as full-backs.

In midfield Yunus Musah is tipped to get his first start, with Rade Krunic keeping his place at the base of the three and Tijjani Reijnders coming in on the left side.

In attack there should be a couple of changes too, with Christian Pulisic back into the side and Noah Okafor tipped to get his first start, while Rafael Leao remains.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Sportiello; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Musah, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Okafor, Leao.

    1. Watching Krunic I _think_ he is more like a CB than a traditional mid, so I am wondering if his workload is low enough he can take the usage game over game?

It does make some sense to keep him there as the field general while we swap in players these next few games so folks know where to be on field.

That said, having a back that is not just talented but ready to run the system would allow me to rest more easily. Maybe Caglieri?

      1. Well it depends. Apart from Reinjders, Krunic has ran the most. He ran the most by some margin compared to all other Milan players in the Newcastle game. And he’s now overtaken everyone in terms of total distance covered so I’d say he’s been overused or used alot. Plus we really need to get the other guys involved esp Musah. He runs alot off the ball but that’s him positioning himself most of the times

    2. Come on, You of all people know that Pirlo..I mean Krunic is just too important of a player to ever be rested. The team would surely crumble without him.

  1. With quite a few options at hand, it will be soon that Pioli becomes confused… He is not very flexible and adaptable to changing situations. Not saying bad or good here, just inflexibility.

  2. I wanted to see how Adli performs in Krunic role but ge will Lively never get that chance and why would okafor play as a striler when he is clearly more like a LW plus we have Jovic there anyway. However the most important thibg is taking 6p against Hellas and Cagliari. Just get tve job done

    1. Why will Adli play in a DMF role, if that fails who takes the blame?

I will agree with Adli playing as a LMF not as a DMF.
He can adapt well as a LMF because the likes of Ozil and Games Rodriguez played well there. Even Isco.

I pity Adli though and that kid Romero, so sorry for them, I wonder how Romero was convinced to sign for Milan knowing that Pioli doesn’t give young players chance like Xavi do at Barcelona.

      1. Have you seen the situation in the EPL Clubs, so many players are out for moths due to injuries? We have depth in wings and can rotate in alternate matches, but still you have Leao starting every game and playing 90 minutes. Al least against weaker opposition you can have Okafor, Pulisic, Romero to play in place of Leao. But I guess idiotic minds like you won’t understand this.

        1. This is not football manager. You have 0 real knowledge on the actual state of any of the players. Your random stupidity just proves what you said. Idiotic minds wouldn’t understand they have no idea about the manager job, being a coach or anything football related. But picking the team that “should” play, you are suddenly a self proclaimed expert and everyone who doesn’t agree is an idiot. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Once again, you are suggesting Jovic for the first team, enough said. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

      1. He needs to be rested after 5 matches. That is his idea. And comparing it to PL that has 3 cups and way tighter schedule with no winter break…

  3. Very useless coach Leo suppose to be in the bench as a punishment of his attitude
    Spotealo,
    Calabria kear, tomori, theo
    Musah, krunic, reinder
    Chukwueze, okafor, pulisic
    Final

  4. It is going to be huge to see how Milan perform with RLC not starting. He has become the reference point on almost every attack. Musah has the talent to start but a player being a reference point is a completely different thing. I’ll be relieved when it goes well!

  5. Maybe I’m just naive, but we need 3 points from Hellas Verone. It is early in the season and wholesale changes in the XI with players still picking up the system is not a strong enough guarantee IMHO.

I’m pleased with the number of changes. We are at the beginning of the season and we see 4 changes.

Kjaer with Tomori to rest Thiaw but still provide stability on the back line for more changes up front.

RLC and Giroud get a rest and we see two of our new signings start.

Given we are in control at the 60, I hope we will see Chuk and Pellegrino in the minimum (unless Kalulu is fit enough to come in, then I’d like to see him get the time to bring match fitness up to snuff).

I’m not sure of myself, but I’d like to see Pobega come in for Krunic OR Adli for Riendjers at the 70′.

If we are dominate I’d like to see Theo and Rafa sit at the 60′ as well, but I don’t have firm opinions about who I’d like to see.

Next week we have Cagliari and we will be able to either burn in Musah and Okafur with a second start or bring Colombo, Pelligrino, Barts in to get them meaningful minutes.

And remember, all this with Giroud, RLC et al coming off the bench if we need them.

    Forza Milan

  6. Apparently Krunic is the one player that is just too important to ever rest. LOL. I think Pioli is more afraid that the team might play better without Krunic in there and then he would have to explain himself. Excited to see Musah get a start tho.

    1. You didn’t hear? Krunic never makes a mistake, he passes backwards every single time because that’s his job. He’s so good, he’s versatile and knows the system. Oh, and he never makes a mistake did I mention that.

Pioli and Krunic are clearly lovers. One bum in love with the other.

  7. I don’t get the Krunic hate. He is all we have in that position. He does a decent job.
Problem is with management not bringing in a starting caliber player..
What happens when Krunic is injured?

    1. First of all, he is not all we have. I’m sure Musah or even Reijnders could as well if not better in that position.
Secondly, they could have sold Krunic and brought in a real DMF if Pioli did not block the move. That’s 100% on Pioli. Sure you can get away with Krunic against the weaker teams, but when you are facing a midfield like Inter’s and you are matching that with Krunic… you are f$@#!d.

      1. We always needed to keep Krunic, we also needed a starting caliber DM

Musah and Reijnders would be wasted there and its not their best position

    1. Totally agree. Especially for games when we will be pressing forward, and the defensive side is less important. His crossing was excellent against Newcastle and Giroud or Jovic would get good chances with him playing.

  8. I don’t know how long will it take to get chance to play under Pioli. Pellegrino is there but Pioli chooce Kjaer. Stop using lame sxcuse he is new, needs to learn etc.
new players should be integrated ASAP by giving them chance. Now Chuk will start again from bench why not Leao. Leaos “backheel flop” should rest him now.
Pioli has better squad depth now, but he is not willing to use it except when someone is injured..really don’t understad this guy..

  9. I expect Pioli to start Chukueze from the first minute . He is our most expensive player we just acquired. Why buying such a player at that amount and yet he won’t use him. Pioli will end up destroying chukueze with this rigid attitude. I remember how we chased chukwu eze for the entire transfer time. Now is on d bench. I think Pioli need to go The earlier the management realises this the better for us
