Sky pundits agree with Pioli’s non-apology: “That question should never be asked”

Stefano Pioli’s decision not to apologise to the AC Milan fans after the 5-1 defeat against Inter has been defender by pundits on Sky.

Milan lost the Milan derby against Inter in a resounding and clear manner once again, but this time the scoreline went beyond a comfortable win as they were beaten 5-1 for the heaviest derby defeat in decades.

PianetaMilan recall that at the end of the match, Pioli was asked by a Rai Sport reporter if he felt it would be appropriate to apologise to the Milan supporters for what was a shambolic display, and he said no.

During last night’s Sky Calcio Club, all the participants in the discussion on the situation took Pioli’s side, from Fabio Caressa – host of the broadcast – to Giuseppe Bergomi, as well as Luca Marchegiani and Giancarlo Marocchi.

Marchegiani: “Pioli says that he doesn’t have to apologise to anyone and he’s right because no one has to apologise, but if you lose the fifth derby you can’t make responses like this.”

Caressa: “I agree that no one has to apologise, because when a professional player commits and gives his best he doesn’t have to apologise to anyone.

“We hate all those scenes under the Cruva that we see every now and then. But it is also true that perhaps one more sentence perhaps to the fan who lost the fifth consecutive derby, the fifth derby in a calendar year…”

Marocchi: “I also agree, there’s no point in apologising or even going under the radar to be told everything, etc. But against Inter you have to play it differently, you have to be sure not to lose the fifth derby.”

Marchegiani: “In my opinion, Pioli’s answer was not aimed at the fans, it was aimed at those asking the question.”

Bergomi: “That question should never be asked.”

Caressa: “I agree. Because in that case he is the leader, if he says yes then it seems that he is attacking the team and therefore he can only respond in that way even a little piqued because he has to defend the group.”

Marchegiani: “Apologise if there is fraud, if he didn’t commit, not if they lose. I don’t think Milan are happy about losing.”

    1. 😂😂😂I mean I literally said this about the 433 pre season and ppl lost their sh!t
So funny seeing everyone wanting to revert to 4231 already

      1. It’s not even just about the formation. You have to be able to adjust your playstyle to the players you have available, as well as the team that you are playing against. WIth Kjaer and Thiaw at the back, neither of which has good pace, you cannot play such a high line, you need to be more conservative. And the inverted fullbacks just leaves you even more exposed to the counter. He played right into Inter’s hands. They were happy to sit back, give Milan possession, invite them in,and hit on the counter. There were times both our fullbacks are up in or around the box and then Inter counters with only Kjaer and Thiaw and maybe Krunic back there to try and deal with Inter’s pace, and they can’t. They were set up to fail. Pioli needs to be more versatile. His idea of basically this is how we play and we are going to play that way no matter who the opponent is just is not going to work.

        1. Completely agree but I think 433 leaves you with too much space (original response was for Rico, not sure how it ended up going to Kenny). But I agree with it sentiments for the most part. The thing is I didn’t see us play the same 433 we played in the first two games with players interchanging positions and causing problems from a man marking perspective. We had fluidity and then it disappeared in this game. I did mention prior to the game that Inter is probably the best at defending zones which can prove problematic for the free roaming movements we do. All teams before Inter for instance man marked Krunic. Inter didn’t. They zoned out all his available outlets for the pass creating walls everywhere. Pioli didn’t have a clue. To me he abandoned the setup in the first 3 games and resorted to last year’s terrible tactics…slow build up and lethargic movements. The team looked so afriad from the get go 🤦‍♂️

Plus we don’t really have the players now for the 4231 because we put our eggs in the 433 basket.

          1. The problem is Pioli. Period. Even the “4-3-3” he’s playing with isn’t a 4-3-3 because players are all over the place. It might even be a 4-1-2-3, since Reijnders and RLC tend to push up a lot. Then suddenly you’ve got Calabra running around in what is almost thr left-wingback spot? Maybe it’s a 3-2-2-3?Maybe it’s a 3-4-3? Maybe it’s a 4-1-4-1? Maybe it’s a joke? Who knows! It’s Pioli!

  1. Sky are all Jube fans
When Milan got beat 5-0 by Roma, Capello apologized to the fans and Berlusconi
And that was after Capello had won us multiple scudetti and CL
Yet this clown thinks that it isn’t his fault and refuses to take responsibility

    1. Times have changed. I said elsewhere that 20 years ago losing the derby 5-1, and the fifth one in a row, would have gotten the manager sacked. I don’t know how Cardinale will turn out in the end, but in that respect he is definitely not Berlusconi. For better of for worse.
