Sky: Roma ready to challenge Milan for ‘dream’ signing from Lille

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are expected to reinforce the defence with a new right-back this summer and Tiago Santos is one of their targets for the position. However, according to a report, Roma are also very keen on the Portuguese international.

We were the first to report about Milan’s interest in Santos, breaking the news on our Substack, and this has since been confirmed by various sources. There are also other targets on the Rossoneri’s radar, though, including Matty Cash of Aston Villa.

According to Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, Milan are not alone in the race for Santos as Daniele De Rossi is a big fan of the player. He considers the Lille right-back a ‘dream’ signing for Roma and a concrete attempt could perhaps be made in the coming weeks.

Milan, meanwhile, haven’t decided whether to accelerate their pursuit of the player. Perhaps the Giallorossi’s interest could prompt them to make a faster decision, although the arrival of the now former Lille manager Paulo Fonseca is a big advantage for the Rossoneri.

Although Geoffrey Moncada is working on several targets at the same time, the main focus is currently on the No.9 role and more specifically Joshua Zirkzee. After that, there will certainly be more movement elsewhere.

  1. Am I the only one who thinks Davide Calabria is still a good player? He was our captain after all. We have 0 CDMs, and 2 solid options at RB… And yet no news on CDMs, just talk about another RB.

    1. Calabria is decent. I think we can get a better RB, but I rather have Calabria staying there, just so we have at least 1 Italian player in the first eleven…

    2. Ofcourse he isn’t good. Why do you think none of the last 3 national team selectors haven’t called him to play for Italy? It’s not a conspiracy, he’s just not good enough (same goes for Tomori). About our other RB/CB, he is worthed exactly as we bought him – 600k euro. We should have sold him after our scudetto season when some teams got the dilussion that he’s worth 20-30M

      1. He’s better than good. He is great. National team means jack shît.

Now if he really wasn’t good enough. Milan would’ve sold him years ago. And he wouldn’t play for Milan if he wasn’t good enough..

        1. Milan’s ownership hasn’t been good enough to kick him out. It’s coming. He’s a bench player and of the 7 sisters, I doubt he’s a starter on any other team…

          1. Really? That’s weak..they dealt with every pressing position when there was a need for it..

Rb was never pressing and there was never a need for it. Still isn’t.

So don’t say the management wasn’t good enough in the last 5 years to rational decide if calabria needs to go or not.

Calabria only looks somewhat bad for you people because there is theo on the other side. But you can, literally can’t, have 2 players like theo on the fullbacks. You need balance. Calabria is balance!

          2. The previous management did not prioritize SB. Theo’s backup changed almost every year, and last year it was Florenzi.

    3. I’d rather save that RB money to double the money for the midfielder. That’s where we absolutely need a experienced leader who will raise the level of our defending AND playmaking. If we don’t get a world-class midfielder not even the best RB in the world can save us from conceding another 40-50 goals next season.

    4. What do you mean good? Do you think he’ll ever be one of top serie a RBs? Because that’s what we need, at the very least. But yeah, DM is much more urgent.

      1. I mean during the Scudetto season he was top 3 right backs in Serie A believe it or not. It’s true he lost form but maybe Pioli tactics also didn’t help him, playing as a inverted fullback the last season.

  2. If he’s that good, the new coach will give the green light, and the management will make the move. Calabria needs competition; the right-back position needs improvement. It’s all for the good of the club.

  3. Having an healthy italian captain sit on the bench, I cross my fingers. But if milan realy needed this guy, milan will get him. We have Dalot, Leao and Fonseca who can convince to sign.

  4. Players Milan have who can play Right Back

    Calabria
    Florenzi
    Kalulu
    Jimenez
    Terraciano
    Alexis

    Is there no sanity?
If it were up to me Kalulu would be 1st choice with Calabria and Jimenez as back ups

    1. You should aim to sign a “theo” on the RT. None of those come close. Maybe Jimenez with years of practice.

  5. We have Calabria, Florenzi, Terraciano, we do not need another RB, save the money for a DM, we must have an Italian core, no more imports are needed, DM – Ricci, Lipani, Rovella, Prati…..plenty to choose from, sick and tired of all these links to cheap imports from France etc
