Villarreal have entered the race to sign Emerson Royal from Spurs but the player is waiting to see what comes of AC Milan’s interest, a report claims.
In the exclusive that we published back in April, we reported that Milan are in the market for a new right-back because of the fact Alessandro Florenzi is in his mid-30s, Pierre Kalulu is seen as more of a centre-back and Filippo Terracciano is untested.
That means Davide Calabria is the only solid long-term option in that role and even he has come under fire for some less than impressive performances in big games this season, so the management are keen on acquiring someone to fight for the starting spot.
According to what is being reported by Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky, Milan have registered an interest in signing Emerson Royal from Spurs, who has struggled for playing time since Pedro Porro’s arrival and also since Ange Postecoglou became head coach.
However, Villarreal are also keen on signing the Brazilian full-back, who amassed 24 appearances and got one assist in the season that has just finished. Di Marzio adds that the player ‘is waiting for Milan’ which he sees as a more attractive destination.
Fabrizio Romano adds in a brief update on X that Royal is ‘still expected to leave Spurs and is giving priority to AC Milan move. He wants AC Milan, while club keeps working hard also on the Joshua Zirkzee deal’.
